The water polo world has lost a great one. 4x Olympian, gold medalist and World Champion for Hungary, 6’11” legend Istvan Szivos (white cap with hands out of water). I had the honor of playing against him multiple times (he’s guarding me in this pic) and to put it mildly, it was always a brutally challenging experience. He was always a true gentleman and sportsman. Rest In Peace Was he the player who could kick the ball? Wumo 1 “Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to inspire. No, that was a teammate of Szivos, Tamas Farago. Farago was for quite a few years during the 1970's, the best player in the world. The first time I was in the center position, with Szivos guarding me, I got front position on him, but when the ball came to me, on the water, his arms were so long that he just reached over me and grabbed it. I learned a very rookie lesson and the next time I made certain to get my hips up and/or protect the ball. phelps 6,785 Posted November 29, 2019 #165 Share Posted November 29, 2019 fun fact, if you write Elio Locatelli, speedskating, in Italy almost nobody would recognize him...he's way more famous as the technical director of our Track & Field National team first and of the IAAF developing program then (and maybe also an appreciated Athletics TV color-commentator in the early Nineties -I remember him commentating the Barcelona 1992 Olympics and also the main IAAF meets in the same period on the Italian Monaco-based TV named Telemontecarlo)... A true Olympic great. He won the 800m in Rome in 1960 and then completed the 800/1500m double in Tokyo four years later. He is one of only five male athletes to complete the double and the only one since 1920. The others were Edwin Flack in 1896, James Lightbody in 1904, Mel Sheppard in 1908, and Albert Hill in 1920.
