Makedonas 1,571 Posted August 5, 2021 #22 Share Posted August 5, 2021 As our girls will not be competing due to multiple positive tests for COVID-19, I wanted to post this to give them some recognition. I hope some of you take the time to watch their routine. This was the first time that we qualified in the team event since 2004 (where we only qualified as host nation). Our girls worked very hard especially over the last two years to try to qualify. We also have a very young team. 6 of the girls are still teenagers. We have two 19 year olds (Kariori and Vasilopoulou), two 18 year olds (Karamesiou and Misikevych), one 17 year old (Fragkaki), and one 16 year old (Gialama). This gives me some hope that maybe we can make it back to the Olympics in the future, although it will be tough as we barely qualified this time and next time Japan won't have the host spot. Still, we have by far the youngest team of all nations in Tokyo so I guess there is plenty of room for improvement over the next three years. orangeman 1,314 Posted August 6, 2021 #23 Share Posted August 6, 2021 Wow, exact same standings as the duet. And the WC. No one could have seen this happening, except everyone who has ever looked at the last 10 years of final standings. Always the same order. This shouldn't be an OIympic event until performance on the day counts. Or we can just send out the medals 3 years before, when they're decided. It's stupid. Quasit 849 Posted August 7, 2021 #25 Share Posted August 7, 2021 Well, it is Romashina's 7th Olympic gold. That's as many as Dressel and Ledecky. If she competes in Paris again, she could tie Latynina, Nurmi, Spitz and Carl Lewis. Adriano and heywoodu 1 1 Stopped watching sports, there are better things in life. dcro 10,179 Posted August 7, 2021 #27 Share Posted August 7, 2021 Terrible TV directing. What's the point of showing those fancy underwater shots when the judges are only looking at what they can see from above and through the water? #banbestmen

The question is if there's someone knowledgable enough when it comes to this sport who can tell us if out-of-podium routines deserved to win medals. After all, it could simply be that Russia is the undisputed number one, with China easily the second-best and Ukraine the third-best. Stopped watching sports, there are better things in life. dcro 10,179 Posted August 7, 2021 #30 Share Posted August 7, 2021 It's simple. Having teams/duets ranked in the same order again and again can only mean two things. Either it's all decided behind close doors, or there is actually very little risk involved in this sport, which results in athletes performing fully within their comfort zone and subsequently scores staying consistent beyond belief. It's bad either way. vinipereira 1 #banbestmen
