Olympian1010 7,418 Posted November 25, 2020 #581 Share Posted November 25, 2020 Major news out of the ICF this morning! They have passed a proposal to ask the IOC to include 2 extreme canoe slalom events at Paris 2024. However, the IOC has previously informed the ICF that they will not grant them anymore medals, so the proposal is actually eliminate 2 canoe sprint events and replace them with 2 extreme canoe slalom events The ICF also revealed that they will lose 12 quotas from Tokyo 2020 to Paris 2024. They also penned an interesting explanation/essay that subtly attacks the IOC’s policies under Bach. I’ve posted links to the announcement and explain action below. dcro 10,172 Posted November 25, 2020 #582 Share Posted November 25, 2020 Very impressive for a discipline where any overtaking after the first five meters is virtually impossible. #banbestmen

dcro 10,172 Posted November 25, 2020 #584 Share Posted November 25, 2020 It would make more sense to have 'extreme' sprint canoeing. But then again. We already have a sport for racing boats. It's called sailing. #banbestmen

hckošice 13,128 Posted November 25, 2020 #586 Share Posted November 25, 2020 Extreme slalom is a relatively new discipline to canoe, but it’s thrilling head-to-head format has attracted new fans and strong television ratings since its introduction to the ICF world cups and world championship programmes. I almost peed myself laughing when I read it. linguists need to be informed quickly that the word strong has taken on a new meaning (yep impressive amount of more than 250 followers during the extreme slalom world cup race) phelps, dcro, SalamAkhi and 1 other 2
dcro 10,172 Posted November 25, 2020 #587 Share Posted November 25, 2020 Which sprints events will get dropped? One has to assume it will be either K4 or C2. K1 200 m is another option, but that would only unlock 24 places. 44 are needed (32 for 'extreme' + 12 ICF will lose). EDIT: I am forgetting a strong possibility of double starters in slalom events. K1 200 m now appears to be the most likely option. #banbestmen

I’d hazard a guess that they’ll cut C2. “Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to inspire. intoronto 4,072 Posted November 25, 2020 #589 Share Posted November 25, 2020 Losing 12 isn't so bad... but wtf @ no new events with no new athletes? Bach needs to go Gianlu33
intoronto 4,072 Posted November 25, 2020 #590 Share Posted November 25, 2020 One of the K1 events (I bet the 1000 for men and 500 for women) are likely toast.
