well, he's not totally unknown here, too...even if it's more because he participated to a reality show for one of our thousends of commercial tv channels than because of his success on the mat...

thanks I didn't know that. I'm familiar with sports in Italy, I mean not as much as you guys obviously but still ...

he is obviously not famous in Tehran :d but people in wrestling community know him very well. and he probably received thousands of comments from the Iranians because of what he did in the European Championship bronze medal match

he didn't try to score on Zhamalov in last 30 seconds when the Russian was visibly injured and in pain. even somehow didn't use one of his hands (not sure if that was intentional) but at least some media here published that as a symbol of fairplay !

in Iran picking the wrestling team was always like rocket science :d, they always make it very complicated.

and it seems this year half of the Olympic team members will be decided in :POL Poland!

we had trials in different dates and different locations for each weight :facepalm: even though technically winning the trials won't secure you a place in the team but we know that's enough. so this will be our Olympic team

Freestyle

57kg: Reza Atri won the trials 3 months ago

65kg: 2 guys will wrestle in Iran for the spot (Amir Mohammad Yazdani and Morteza Ghiasi)

74kg: 2 wrestlers in Poland (Younes Emami and Mostafa Hosseinkhani)

86kg: Hassan Yazdani won the trials 3 months ago

97kg: 3 wrestlers in Poland (M. H. Mohammadian, Ali Shaabani and Alireza Karimi)

125kg: 2 wrestlers in Poland (Amir Hossein Zare and Amin Taheri)

Greco-Roman is a different story. our coach simply doesn't believe in direct trials most of the time. he will send some wrestlers in Poland which means he already know his team in other weights.

60kg: Alireza Nejati is selected unofficially

67kg: Mohammad Reza Geraei is selected unofficially

77kg: Mohammad Ali Geraei is selected unofficially

87kg: Didn't qualify

97kg: 2 wrestlers in Poland (Hadi Saravi and Mehdi Bali)

130kg: 3 wrestlers in Poland (Amir Ghasemi-Monjazi, Amin Mirzazadeh and Akbar Yousefi)

all of them are Russians, unless differently indicated...

on this website, you can find the replays of all the tournament's sessions...

https://sportrecs.com/video/fJIOpsIAukg2s2HsEwo-Jw

from there, you can extract all the results you want (women's wrestling included)...you just need a lot of time and a lot of patience...

on youtube, instead, you can find some selected matches (finals, but not only)...

p.s. in a few days (maybe weeks) on the UWW and/or Wrestling Russia's websites they will publish the full results, I'm sure...

but for now, we only have to wait or watch the videos...

Entries for Polish Open, the last ranking event before Tokyo. the Olympic seeding will be finalized after that

https://uww.org/article/poland-open-entries-june-9-13

Russia was supposed to send A team but apparently they will pick another tournament.

and for Iran (and apparently few other countries specially Kazakhstan) this acts as our trials for the Olympics in 5 weights. whoever wins go to the Olympics.

today was the first day of Polish Open. the ranking is now finalized for 3 weights

but most importantly for us, this is our trials in 5 weights. one of them was today. 97kg freestyle. all 3 Iranian finished on the podium with gold, silver and bronze but MH Mohammadian booked his place in Tokyo by beating Karimi 2-2 and Shabani 1-1 ! I believe he is the only man on the planet who may have a small chance to beat the great Sadulaev. very unfortunate that 3 of our best wrestlers are in the same weight (while we are very weak in 65kg)

but well whoever lost today can still call the great Tom Bach. IOC is ready to give refugee team status to any Iranian who fails to qualify.

------------

by my count Olympic seeding will be something like this

57kg:

1. :SRB Micic - 62pts

2. :RUS Uguev - 60

3. :TUR Atli - 58

4. :IND Ravi - 45

86kg:

1. :IRI Yazdani - 60

2. :IND Deepak - 54

3. :SMR Amine - 50

4. :RUS Naifonov - 47

* Deepak Punia was registered today and even participated in the weighin but all of a sudden withdrew before his match. guess what ? with just one win he could add 8 more points to his tally to become #1 in Tokyo but he didn't want that :d now he can avoid both Iran and Russia before the final. the bottom half is already weaker in this weight. and there is a 50% chance that the other favorite David Taylor falls in the top half means we will have a lucky silver medalist at least.

97kg:

1. :RUS Sadulaev - 80

2. :USA Snyder - 57

3. :KAZ Yergali - 48

4. :MKD Nurov - 47

interestingly our 2nd guy manhandled both #3 and #4 here. none of them are medal contender. but with RUS and USA being in different brackets the draw will be balanced.

Amr Reda is the 1st good Egyptian freestyle Wrestler i've seen in a while , he defeated 2019 WCh Silver medalist Kaipanov 13-5 and then barely lost to Semen Radulov from Ukraine , he'll have to wait for the Ukrainian to defeat Chazmizo in Semis to reach repechage
