Apart from the doping records, it’s down to technical or organisational progress. Late 60s/early 70s - end of the old dirt tracks, arrival of all weather tracks. Late 70s/early 80s - professionalisation & emergence of commercial televised meets Early 90s - Emergence of professionally managed East African athletes. Now we have this new combination of super shoes & computerised pace-making, opening up WRs long thought unbeatable. Back markers got out of the way, so she ran a much shorter line. Evening conditions, so disco lights much easier to see. So a head to head will be…enticing. Gediminas Truskauskas just ran a 20.48s in 200m during a competition held in Austria. He smashed his 20.75 PB right after already running a 100m race twice today. He also broke his PB there as well, where he became the fourth fastest man in Lithuania (10.33). The previous record holder was Rytis Sakalauskas with 20.74 set back in 2011. He is still the record holder for 100m. in Lithuania, but it is looking likely that Gediminas might even attempt to take down that record if he continues to improve. Edit: To add on to that, I just found out that it is the 2nd best 200m. run from a European this season. PS: I'll also add that two days ago, Adrijus Glebauskas jumped 2.30 and became the third best high jumper of all time in Lithuania. The NR is 2.34.
