I think these results were heavily influenced by the chance of having regular training sessions during the last months...

the Italian riders, for instance, had to take a long break and surely they're not in top shape right now...hopefully they'll be more competitive when the world champs come...

France never took serious measures against covid (and we all see that with their current numbers of daily new cases and deceased people) and their athletes had more chances to keep on training all Spring and Summer long, so now they're in better shape than anybody else...

p.s. by the way, an Italian girl won (surprisingly, I must say) the U-23 race...little consolation, at least...

Lol  What a load of BS

We were locked down just like Italy, it was impossible to go out, even in forest or empty areas further than one kilometer from your residence. There were no exemption for high-level athletes (https://rmcsport.bfmtv.com/plus-de-sports/coronavirus-pourquoi-les-nageurs-italiens-peuvent-encore-s-entrainer-et-pas-les-francais-1877165.html "In Italy for example, high-level athletes are granted dispensations in spite of the lockdown").

So no, find other justifications please :)

no way...:finger:

your lockdown was "fresh air" compared to the total lockdown here (and still your rules are crazy shameful...you don't even have mandatory rules about wearing masks everywhere and, above all, positive testing people don't have to go to mandatory quarantine, it's only "suggested"...here you can't even leave your home/quarantine places when you're healthy again if you don't get a double negative test in a few days...with no exception)...

and in particular, no Italian athlete (except for the usual footballers, but you know, they are privileged in many things, not only for their salaries and media attention) was allowed even to go to the gym, imagine training properly...

for instance, our combat sports athletes (except for a few pro boxers, who can go abroad to avoid our restrictions) are still "quarantined" and no competition of disciplines like Judo, Karate, Taekwondo can be held in Italy (even Fencing is in stand-by until at least the end of the year)...

they can just have private individual training like any people in the Country...

p.s. just to be precise, our swimmers (mentioned in the artcle above) had to fully stop their activity from February to late May, when the lockdown was partially lifted for the first time...

however, I was not talking of the early Spring months, when more or less full lockdowns were in place almost everywhere...I'm talking of the late Spring and Summer months, where our athletes still had a lot of troubles (being enrolled in the Military Corpse, most of them couldn't go abroad for quite a while after the lockdown was lifted)...

Il famoso fresh air

Shameful is a very judgmental word, we're not bound to take the measures you think we'd have to take ; and nope, yet again, we do have mandatory rules to wear masks in most of the cities (which I personally find stupid, as if wearing a mask in an empty street ever proved to be useful, but that is not the problem here).

Same here until mid-may

Same here for the training until very late (later than may), yet again a band-aid on a bullet wound, like separate entrances on the pitch in football matches ... with players sharing the same pitch for 90 minutes then :roflmao:

And yet lots of Italian athletes performed well in many sports ...

Like maybe in ... MTB https://maj.ffc.fr/com/imgadmin/RESULTATS/VTT/2020/fichiers/4893095365_20200808_XCO_U23_et_Elite_Femmes.pdf

Lechner 4th in front of PFP ... early August ... maybe because of the light lock-down ... hmm no definitely

Results from this stage of World Cup are counted to Olympic ranking or qualifications are postponed to some time as well?

No, it is not counted.

Quote

The UCI Olympic Qualification ranking is the sum of:
- the UCI Cross-country Nation ranking of 28 May 2019 (including results from 28 May 2018 to 27 May 2019)
- the UCI Cross-country Nation ranking including results from 28 May 2019 until 3 March 2020 and in addition two (2) to be nominated World Cup events in the 2021 season.
