American1998 0 Posted August 11, 2020 #1 Share Posted August 11, 2020 A friend and I were debating the objective difficulty of the Olympics. He said that winning a Nobel Prize was a lot harder than an Olympic gold medal, but can this even be measured?
Monzanator 3,569 Posted August 11, 2020 #2 Share Posted August 11, 2020 It can't be measured since every award - Nobel Prize included - is ahem... awarded so it's a judgement decision. There's nothing judgemental in Olympic results. You can compare Nobel Prize to something like a Golden Ball in football (soccer) though.
American1998 0 Posted August 11, 2020 Author #3 Share Posted August 11, 2020 Thanks for your response. Does that make equestrian less "legitimate", than running, relatively speaking?

Unlike breakdancing, which is just picking the 'cooler' routine. So I guess breakdancing will be the Olympic version of the Nobel prize. There’s five Nobel Prizes, given out every year, and up to three winners so that’s 5x4x3 chances to win which equals......errrr,, ummm, well, not a very big number anyway. High 50s, low 60s, say. OTOH 306 Summer Golds & 102 Winter, so obviously a lot easier to win the Olympics.
NearPup 2,095 Posted August 11, 2020 #9 Share Posted August 11, 2020 How to win the Olympics in a few easy steps: 1. Be rich and become a citizen of, say, Dominica. 2. Create the Dominican Curling association. 3. Recruit a bunch of elite Canadian players and pay for their citizenship. 4. Nominate yourself as the alternate on the Dominican Olympic curling team. 5. Don’t play (you don’t need to play a single end to be eligible for a medal). 6. Keep at it until Dominica finally wins gold. 7. Congrats? dcro, Olympian1010, phelps and 1 other 3
LDOG 2,181 Posted August 11, 2020 #10 Share Posted August 11, 2020 Less than 10 countries have more Nobel laureates than olympic gold medalists. So, obviously winning olympic gold is easier. Dnl
