Some even prioritise the tour over the Olympics. If Birmingham were to include tennis it would be competing with an ATP/WTA 1000 tournament on the same week. Tennis enjoys a good participation rate in the Caribbean, Pacific, and Africa, so a tournament at the Commonwealth Games could give players from those regions a nice platform outside the major tournaments. “Sport has the power to change the world. But for the Commonwealth Games, Ireland is not part of the Commonwealth. So if you choose to compete for Ireland and that's what your license is under it seems reasonable to me that you do not compete in the Commonwealth Games. This is *at best* naive about how delicate the issue of citizenship is in Northern Ireland This is about more than sport but the fact that every other governing body is understanding of the situation (and has been long before the Good Friday agreement) shows how weird this stance from the FIG is People cannot be citizens of Northern Ireland (just like they can’t be citizens of Wales, England, Scotland, Isle of Man etc etc) and to suggest that only people who identify as British can compete for Northern Ireland is absolutely scandalous

I do understand their perspective as a sports body in Switzerland though and 'where they're coming from' so to speak. But yes I do agree with you thinking about the merits of both arguments it causes problems and there should be an exception As now we come across the world To share these Games of old Let all the flags of every land In brotherhood unfold

JoshMartini007 2,204 Posted June 1, 2022 #256 Share Posted June 1, 2022 A better draw for Canada relative to 2018. Definitely see a path to the semis. Winning a medal on the other hand will be difficult.

Canada will likely finish 4th at best... which ofc is our favourite number

Singapore will be favoured to win MS WS without sweat and may win the MD too going by their players' performance in Thomas Cup .
JoshMartini007 2,204 Posted June 1, 2022 #259 Share Posted June 1, 2022 England is in a unique situation, relatively weak single players, but strong double players. Against the best they can hope for is a 3-2 win (maybe 4-1 against Canada). For Canada to defeat England all we really need is for our women's doubles to pull off the upset (and for Brian Yang to defeat his opponent). We aren't the favourites, but a medal opportunity is still there. On the other hand, we could lose to Singapore or even Scotland in the group stage.
