Methinks yes, and even more for Ainslie, at best you can consider it in the "same" event if an event is replaced by another one, which is not the case here.

Well, in wrestling you can distinguish two styles (but not for women) but yeah, if we go purist then different weight classes are different events.

Finn replaced Firefly as the dinghy class in 1952 so Elvstrom had no choice like Ainslie.

Ben Ainslie and Kaori Icho must be among the six ;)

Only Oerter, Lewis and Phelps did it in the same event.

Elvstrom and Ainslie in two different sailing classes (but still the same sport) and Icho in two different weight classes. That is all.

Question is whether a different weight class in a combat sport is a different event? Methinks not.

I think Icho should count since there was no -63 kg weight class in Rio, so she had no chance to 4-peat.

Is men's 50 m pistol still an olympic event? Jin Jong-oh has won that event 3 times in a row, so if it still is an olympic events and he hasn't retired yet, then he might have a chance.

He also won silver in 2004, so he was very close already.

Dario Cologna also is an interesting case. He won the 15 km race 3 times in a row, 2010 and 2018 in freestyle and 2014 in classical style. He could win a 4th gold in 2022.

Saori Yoshida was also pretty close, she won gold in women's -55 kg wrestling in 2004, 2008 and 2012, but "only" silver in the -53 kg category in 2016.

Shaun White could also win his 4th gold in the halfpipe in 2022, but i don't know if he even plans to compete?

Mijain Lopez won gold in 2008 (-120 kg), 2012 (-120 kg) and 2016 (-130 kg), so he could also win his 4th gold in 2020 (don't know if he is still active?).

Pitty the Hochschorner bros missed the 4th gold in a row in London 2012, winning only bronze, I remember I swear never saw more sadder persons in a podium in my life...

Life must be awesome though if the reason for being terribly, terribly sad on the podium is that you only won Olympic bronze instead of your 4th (!) consecutive Olympic gold medal :d

Leonidas of Rhodes - 4 gold medals in stadion and dialous.

Six time wrestling champion - yes, that is one event - Milo of Croton is barely impressed.

Apparently he ate raw bull's meat to intimidate his opponents. Since it must have contained clenbuterol (like any meat) - surely he retroactivelly loses all those titles. :p

Eating raw bull's meat actually sounds like it will have....let's say, quite a disadvantageous effect on one's body
