A Wuhan doctor who was among the first to alert other medics to the spread of coronavirus has disappeared sparking concerns that she has been detained, reports suggest.

Dr Ai Fen said she faced 'unprecedented, extremely harsh reprimanded' by officials at Wuhan Central Hospital after she shared a picture of a patient report labelled 'SARS coronavirus'.

The image was widely circulated and made its way to whistle-blower Li Wenliang who raised the alarm about the bug, which has killed more than 41,000 people worldwide.

Dr Li was reprimanded by authorities for 'illegally spreading untruthful information online'.

Dr Ai gave an interview to a Chinese magazine criticising the hospital's management for dismissing the early warnings of the coronavirus but has not been seen since, 60 Minutes Australia reported.

Trial of high doses of malaria drug to treat coronavirus in Brazil stopped early after A QUARTER of patients developed heart problems

Scientists in the Brazilian city of Manaus were planning to enroll 440 severely ill coronavirus patients in a trial of chloroquine

The drug is an older version of hydroxychloroquine, an anti-malaria drug being tested in coronavirus patients after Trump hailed it a 'game-changer'

One quarter of the 81 patients given 600mg of chloroquine in the Brazil study developed heart arrhythmias and they may have been at greater risk of death

Scientists stopped the high-dose trial early and only one patient cleared the virus after being treated with the drug

Notably, the patients developing heart arrhythmias were being treated with a higher dose than is being used for most patients in the US

Heart arrhythmias were a known side effect of chloroquine according to studies of malaria and autoimmune disorder patients

Scientists in Brazil have stopped part of a study of a malaria drug touted as a possible coronavirus treatment after heart rhythm problems developed in one-quarter of people given the higher of two doses being tested.

Chloroquine and a newer, similar drug called hydroxychloroquine, have been pushed by President Donald Trump after some early tests suggested the drugs might curb the virus from entering cells.

But the drugs have long been known to have potentially serious side effects, including altering the heartbeat in a way that could lead to sudden death.

The Brazilian study, in the Amazonian city of Manaus, had planned to enroll 440 severely ill COVID-19 patients to test two doses of chloroquine, but researchers reported results after only 81 had been treated.

One-fourth of those assigned to get 600 milligrams twice a day for 10 days developed heart rhythm problems, and trends suggested more deaths were occurring in that group, so scientists stopped that part of the study.

When I checked yesterday or the day before I noticed the growth was not increasing anymore, but was sort of steady at roughly 80-85k new cases per day.

If you'd like to help our fellow Totallympics member Bruna Moura get to the 2026 Winter Olympics, after her car crash on the way to the 2022 Olympics, every tiny bit of help would be greatly appreciated! Full story and how to help can be found here!

Is it slowing down?

Could be, but I would wait at least a week before making conclusions. Easter may have had an effect on testing and on the longer run it may also start something new. There are some positive signs, but meanwhile we've seen a slight growth in the numbers in China. Could be second wave coming there, but could also be coincidence (so far it's not that much (officially). Meanwhile Russia is starting to move at a worrying pace.

66 new confirmed cases yesterday (including the 47 already mentioned from the quarantined Retirment House in Pezinok ) so without them it was 14 confirmed cases accross the country yesterday from the 1302 provided Tests during the Easter Monday.

So we have now 835 Confrmed Cases in Slovakia (+66 !!! Yesterday), 1302 Tests Yesterday (30052 in Total)

2 Deaths (+0), 107 Healed (+0)

121 Hospitalized, 4 in Serious condition (Under Ventilation), 4 in Critical (ICU)

And now back to the retirement house in Pezinok, apparently one of the employees deliberately withheld his return from holidays in Italy and even without quarantinining himself immediately continued working in the said retirement house. What a idiot ! I swear, some people are... this is almost a criminal act...

The mayor of the city of Pezinok has already filed a official complaint. and the Police already started the procedures
