51 years and the Williams name will remain in name only (for the time being). Obviously the Williams Grand Prix Engineering was founded in 1977 but there was Frank Williams Racing Cars that entered F1 in 1969 already.

 

After the purchase was announced a couple of weeks ago this comes as no surprise. I suppose the new owners will keep the Williams name for 2-3 years to pretend they care about the legacy but then it will be gone just like Sauber after Alfa Romeo takeover lately.
