OlympicsFan 782 Posted August 11, 2020 #241 Share Posted August 11, 2020 Impressive world lead for Vetter, I guess he would have preferred it if the olympics would have taken place this year. Interesting, maybe you should try the same approach as in other sports (swimming, wrestling). I think Italy could buy some Cuban track and field athletes if they tried. Ok, I only watched the prelims (didn’t know there was a final) and it showed 13:27 as his winning time. Werloc 3,127 Posted August 11, 2020 #246 Share Posted August 11, 2020 Underperformances from all three attendees, though even with those results, Gudžius got second and Kilty got third.

Not as many as , but plenty. yeah, but normally we don't "buy" them... they just come to live in Italy after they get married with Italian people (and they're not escaping from their Country, in most cases the marriage actually happens in Cuba, with authorization of the Cuban officials) and after a few years living here, they just get our citizenship and a few of them start competing for Italy (only because they're not good enough to make the Cuban team...the only exception are Frank Chamizo -wrestling- and Osmany Juantorena -volleyball)... p.s. and even if we wanted to buy them, we just can't, as Cuba is one of those Nations we don't give away our passport that easily...it takes years to become Italian for them, even after marriage (which in most cases instead is an almost automatical thing)... Werloc 3,127 Posted August 11, 2020 #248 Share Posted August 11, 2020 On the topic of passports, some Russian athletes are already looking for their missing Lithuanian grandmothers and grandfathers and considering switching nationalities. There are also talks that Lasickienė might switch, because she has a Lithuanian husband and is very outspoken on the issues of Russian athletics as well as mentioning the fact that she might be considering to start for another country and Lithuania would be the most logical choice. Yeah, that is right. It’s kind of forgotten, but when an international athlete changes country then the birth country has the right to insist on a four-year embargo from World & Olympic Championships*. Nobody ever bothers with it anymore - except . *But not DL etc. Possibly Europeans, I don’t know.
