heywoodu 13,500 Posted September 10, 2020 Author #742 Share Posted September 10, 2020 As of today, the BDO is officially history. Obviously it already was for quite a while, but it's last struggles by a desperate and ever-angry Des Jacklin have now come to an end: it's over, great job by Jacklin and his clan to destroy the whole thing, they get what they deserve If you'd like to help our fellow Totallympics member Bruna Moura get to the 2026 Winter Olympics, after her car crash on the way to the 2022 Olympics, every tiny bit of help would be greatly appreciated! I was a childhood fan of the BDO in the 1990s and the very early 2000s but everything about that federation belongs in the Stone Age. heywoodu

Welp, there is still the WDF for the smaller tier of players, who wish to make some tournament plays.

That role is just not to try and be the top level of darts... It's way more in making it easy for people to play, since that's way too expensive in the PDC. I accidentally stumbled upon news that BDO folded two months ago. It was obvious they lost the PDC battle for the stars of the game but what happens with these casual second-tier players who used BDO as a step on the ladder? Either darts become more top-heavy or even more international now?

Most of those players will probably not be heard of again as they aren’t good enough to make it to the higher levels of the PDC structure. There wasn’t much money to be made in the BDO anyway in recent years. However a few players could make the transition and as is often the case when BDO players switch over to the PDC they become even better players as they must raise their level. Darts has been becoming more and more international in recent years and I expect that trend to continue in the coming years. Barry Hearn is also the chief of world snooker which has also gradually, if very slowly, been getting more international. Still a long way to go though.
