Disaster, complete disaster, how can there be a this huge difference between last year and this year

Yasemin Adar who was the two-years ago champion and last year runner-up is eliminated in the first match.

Our grekoromen team was a complete disaster. Huge disappointment

So we would finally have a female with 2  world wrestling champions medals  in the form of Pooja Dhanda, still won't be that great bcoz it's non Olympic category. The trials were never required in 57kg i believe, even if she lost to Sarita it was because they know each others moves well. But Pooja has a lot of experience.

I don't think Pooja winning gold is a given. She is amazing in attack but her defence is too suspect. (A bit like the young Bajrang). She can defeat any opponent and lose to any. So, even with Pooja instead of Sarita in 57kg, with the kind of draw (Nichita, Bullen and Kawai in the same quarter), there wouldn't have been much difference.

For today's quotas, Kiran still has a very small chance. Rotter Focken is through to semis but Gray is an amazing wrestler and if Focken can upset her, Kiran will get a chance in repechage.

Mostly because they are being used to keep gender numbers more balanced. Don't worry, mixed artistic duet will be here soon enough. :p

yeah, when our great Giorgio Minisini (by far the best male in the sport right now) will be gone...:wall:

And it very much looks like a historic (but outdated) discipline. Maybe in 1920s Greco-Roman bouts were interesting, but today most matches are decided by often eyebrow-raising cautions and advantages given...

only because they adopt freaking wrong rules (and because of biased -if not corrupted- refs and officials)...

with the rules they were using until 20 years ago, Greco-Roman wrestling was a lot more spectacular and offensive-minded...

then someone started to say that it was not so "accasional viewer friendly" and they started to change the rules year after year...and always going in the wrong direction, giving refs too many responsibilities and chances to heavily influence the final outcome of every single bout...

p.s. and it's not my/our fault if most people nowadays have the attention span of a hamster and/or can't appreciate a sport for what it is...

At least Pooja would have been in the repechage losing to Kawai.

Kiran did well but Gray is a great athlete
