It's been known for a while Seattle will join the NHL from the 21/22 season. Now both conferences will have 16 teams each. The new team will play at the old SuperSonics NBA arena (obviously renovated).

more than renovated...it's being completely rebuilt...only the old iconic roof will survive after all the works are completed...

I still don't understand why would they want to renovate this arena so much but they refused to build a new one for the Sonics? :dunno:

That's because they found an ownership group willing to do it. Howard Schultz is a jackass

because that venue and its iconic roof is considered a monument, a legacy of the World Expo they hosted quite a few years ago (in 1962)...

and it's located in a sort of "protected area"...

it's just like the San Siro Stadium in Milan...there's a too strong part of the local population that doesn't want to touch a structure that's considered an eternal part of the city landscape...

that's also another reason...together with the local people's refusal to pay more taxes to help financing a completely new project...
