Lundby almost fell down in the first round and got way to high marks. It wasn't as bad as yesterday tbh. But Althaus two-foot landing cost her the gold, she couldn't do anything about the wind compensation in the 2nd round.

Lundby is bound to come down like Vogt did after a couple of years, hopefully that's when Althaus will be finally rewarded. Lundby is far better than what Vogt has ever been , you can't compare those two. Just face that Lundby is the best female jumper in the world. EselTheDonkey 622 Posted February 27, 2019 #84 Share Posted February 27, 2019 Overall World Cup 2013/14: https://www.fis-ski.com/DB/ski-jumping/cup-standings.html?sectorcode=JP&seasoncode=2014&cupcode=WC&disciplinecode=all&gendercode=L&nationcode= As you can see, in contrast to what is generally thought, Vogt did not come out of nowhere in Sotschi. She did not win because she was suddenly better than during the World Cup. She won because Takanashi was significantly worse than during the World Cup. Same during the World Championships 2015. Only at the WC two ago she came from an outsider position.

Vogt didn't come out of nowhere but neither did Lundby who actually led in Lahti after the 1st round. This time she's learned how not to throw it away but she won the Olympics before that already. She's got more staying power and definitely avoids the choking bug that has plagued Takanashi.
EselTheDonkey 622 Posted February 27, 2019 #86 Share Posted February 27, 2019 Of course Lundby didn't come out of nowhere. I'm disappointed and a bit angry, because I think Althaus was today the best Jumper and deserved to win gold. But there's no doubt that Lundby is a world class ski Jumper. Of course Lundby has one more overall world cup, but unlike Vogt she never had to compete against peak Takanashi (the best female ski jumper of all times). Completely agree, noone said that Lundby came out of nowhere today, but anyone who isn't completely biased has to admit that Althaus today was the better athlete. Lundby got clearly overscored + it's easier to make a telemark when you jump half a kilometer shorter in each round. Same conditions + fair judges -> Althaus wins the gold medal today in 99 out of 100 cases. Attachment is the great fabricator of illusions; reality can be obtained only by someone who is detached. Wind compensation made the difference and Althaus landing on two feet in the first jump. Lundby utterly dominates the World Cup for the last two seasons so I doubt she's going anywhere given her age. She's like the Takanashi who actually wins the big events too! Althaus can't win anything since mid-December now 1) Takanashi severely declined already despite being 2 years younger than Lundby 2) Vogt won her last title in 2017, when she was as old as Lundby is now 3) Althaus is 2 years younger than Lundby Please don't let facts disturbe you ...
