Officials at the International Island Games Association (IIGA) confirmed the move after holding their Annual General Meeting (AGM). Competition was due to be held on the Channel Island between July 3 and 9 next year, meaning the event is a victim of the global health crisis despite being nine months away. The IIGA will now attempt to find new dates for next year's Games but the event will not take place in 2021. PHI2019 188 Posted October 19, 2020 #856 Share Posted October 19, 2020 South American Games in 2022 delayed due to "unpredictable" COVID-19 pandemic The 2022 South American Games in Asunción have been delayed by five months due to the "unpredictable" COVID-19 pandemic. Paraguay's capital city was initially scheduled to stage the event from April 26 to May 9 in 2022, but it will now take place in October that year. The South American Sports Organization (ODESUR) has confirmed the Games will be held from October 1 to 15 instead. It comes after ODESUR received a request from the Government of the Republic of Paraguay to postpone the start of Asunción 2022 because of the "health emergency that the region is experiencing" due to COVID-19. mrv86 2,924 Posted November 2, 2020 #860 Share Posted November 2, 2020 Two frontrunners for the 2022 CAC Games: The first one is Mayagüez, who'll repeat as host after just 12 years, and has mayor support from the regional mayors and Puerto Rico's goernment; however, any official bid will be announced after Tuesday's election. The second one is Colombia, but not with Barranquilla, rather they would pick Bucaramanga, as stated by the local and national sports authorities. The Dominican Republic is torn between those who are asking the government to move ahead and host the Games four years in advance as they have already planned (they are the sole bidder for the centennial edition), but another sector is opposed to that measure or even been considered as a sub-venue for a handful of disciplines. Guatemala and El Salvador are said to be also interested, but I doubt they'll be picked: the former declined to host 2018 with only a couple of years to go and the later has had to postpone the 2022 Central American Games (a different event) until December 2022, so not exactly a move in the right direction.
