Decent results for the Dutch so far. Gold in the 110m hurdles (m) and 3000m (m) and silver in the discus throw (m), only behind GB in the medal table. Some noteworthy medals for David Pronk with a PB in 110m hurdles and Yannick Rolvink with a national U18 record in the discus throw.

But the real deal is Niels Laros, winner of the 3000m. I'm expecting another gold tomorrow when he runs the 1500m, he already took the 1500m championship record in the heats. He's an incredibly talented middle distance runner, way ahead of his age group. I first heard about him when he joined the elite squad in their annual South Africa training camp aged 17 last spring.

a lot of hype in Italy for Mattia Furlani and his U18 European Record in the boy's Long Jump (8.04)...

and he's also among the favourites in the boy's High Jump (JaVaughn Harrison who?)

These things are strange: very often the people who do best at U-18 in athletics (and indeed in many sports) are never heard from again.  How many of these people have gone on to glittering careers?

About 50%. There are many reasons why a big young talent loose himself. Early Growth, specially for girls. There are girls that at 18 are women, and girls that a 18 are babies. And real ages. Not even clear. Especially for africans and chinese. Head. It's easy for a young talent to be under pressure. Injuried, sometimes we ask too much at them. Finally, youth. Some of them are now too youngs

So 3G 3B for :GBR!  There should be more events in :ISR

Should have mentioned yesterday that we have yet another famous parent/child combination.  Renee Regis, bronze in the 100m yesterday is the daughter of John Regis, World 4x400m Gold Medallist Tokyo 1991, & Jenny Stoute, 4x400m bronze medallist Barcelona 1992.

Indeed he gets the double easily.

It’s like living in the old :GDR as :GBR add another 3 Golds & a bronze tonight, with more races to come.

Science fiction continues as Roko Farkaš has been leading the decathlon aince event 1. Very nice PB in the 400 m.

However, I do not expect a medal here. His pole vaulting appears to be pretty bad.

Yes PV and 1500m are really bad.

Told you so!:p You are right though, even if someone wins this easily in the U18 age group there are no guarantees of any success. At this age it's most important to just steadily keep improving PBs, because everyone matures at a different rate and responds to intensified training differently.

A second Dutch medal today: bronze in the javelin throw! Feel like we've been winning more medals in field events in these youth tournaments lately.

Nowadays the best thing that can happen to a young athlete is to get a solid scholarship deal from a good NCAA school like, in his case, Oregon.

and he did it!  Mattia Furlani won the Gold Medal also in the boy's High Jump...:cheer: :champion:

but this time it wasn't as easy as it was in the Long Jump, he had to fight hard to earn his second success (and in this case he didn't improve his PB)...

still, this is an unprecedented double at European level...

as I wrote a few days ago, JaVaughn Harrison, who? :roflmao:
