The Canadian National Championships were held this past weekend. These were the results of the Commonwealth Games Bound athletes:

 

Women:

49 kg: Hannah Kaminski (competed at 55 kg) hit a total of 171 kg, which places her second in the Commonwealth rankings

55 kg: Rachel Leblanc-Bazinet: 181 kg, 6th in Commonwealth Ranking, was her first competition in a while

59 kg: Tali Darsigny: 192 kg; 3rd in Commonwealth Ranking

64 kg: Maude Charron: 226 kg (10 less than in Tokyo), first in Commonwealth rankings

71 kg: Alexis Ashworth: DNC

76 kg: Maya Layor: 237 kg, competed in 81 kg event, First in Commonwealth rankings 

87 kg: Kristael Ngarlem (who broke the CJ NR) competed in the 81 kg event and hit 231 kg, second in the commonwealth rankings

+87 kg: Emma Frisen: 225 kg, ranked 7th in the Commonwealth

 

Men:

61 kg: Youri Simard: 244 kg 9th in the Commonwealth, well below his PB

73 kg: Shad Darsigny did not compete

81 kg: Nicholas Vachon: 314 kg, 5th in Commonwealth, but he does have a lift of 325 kg, the top lift in the Commonwealth rankings

96 kg: Boady Santavy: 380kg, first in the Commonwealth, by a distance

109 kg: Pierre-Alexandre Besette, competed in the 102 kg event and scored a 337kg total, 5th in Commonwealth

+109 kg: Quinn Everett: 362 kg; 4th in Commonwealth.

 

If everyone performs to their best, 4 golds is not out of the possibility, Canada won one in 2018.

New snatch PR for Maude Charron in women’s 59kg, with 106kg! 236kg in total, which is not only a new PB, but also a new Canadian record!

Unfortunately it looks like her chance for a medal will be somewhat less likely than Tokyo, as assuming Luo Shifang’s injury isn’t too serious, China will select this weight category as one of their three.

Oh for sure, but what I’m trying to say is that if China chooses this as one of their weightclasses, gold would be untouchable and only silver/bronze would be the only medals up for grabs. Without China, the event is wide open.
