Strong national leagues or what? well, everything is about finance. Japan have big financial injections put into hockey, especially youth. this allows them to progress much faster. Especially Japan will be really strong in some years, their youth categories are actually full of very talented players, I expect to see Japan fighting even for the quarterfinals top division in some let say 5-6 years In other side Korea is a true enigma for me, I was certain their hockey will drop quickly after PyeongChang, they rally only in a couple of same players for some time now (including the naturalized north americans), they had poor results so far last 2 seasons and their hockey especially at last years world champs was quite not modern and slow, but somehow they are strongly overperforming here in Kazakhstan so far mainly because of 2 factors, extreme and impresive efficiency (they nedd only some shots to score a goal lol) and at 2, Matt dalton the North American naturalized goaltender who is just excellent, + also enormously experienced coaching staff with the kinds of Jim Paek and Richard Park is a important factor as well, no doubts. Anyway their results yesterday and today are still definitely a huge surprise ChandlerMne
NearPup 2,156 Posted April 30, 2019 #30 Share Posted April 30, 2019 Ya I don’t think South Korea’s relative success is sustainable, especially if they stop recruiting marginal pros from Canada and the US.
