2 words: GHB party (not saying at all that she was conscious of that, rather that she was victim of it)...

her symptoms (especially the few hours blackout) go straight in that direction...

Can our Canadian friends here comment on this? This is a surprise to me.

She is effectively killing her career. There won't be the level of support there is in Canada and ofc there is 0 chance the Philippines builds a medal winning relay team.

I think you are overestimating the support the national federation gives to its athletes. Most of the time they are on their own. She will likely still retain her club coach and continue to train in Canada (or maybe move to the United States).

There are two major reasons why an athlete changes nationality, they either had a huge disagreement with the old federation or the new nation has enticed them to switch sides. We don't know which one is the case for Sanchez, but she'll have the potential to be a big star in the Philippines if she can win golds at the Southeast Asian and Asian Games next year while in Canada it will be tough for her to get the spotlight.

Yes she's giving up winning more relay medals, but she already has 2 Olympic and 6 World Championship medals so I don't think she will regret it. She also has a chance (albeit a very small one) to win an individual medal which again will be much bigger for the Philippines than Canada.

Definitively an unexpected blow to our relay teams. Makes me wonder if there isn't turmoil in Canadian swimming that hasn't fully been reported on yet.

Either way, best of luck to her. It would be a big deal for :PHI if she manages to win an individual Olympic medal.

There's little chance of her winning an individual medal at the Olympics. The best she'll likely be able to do is win individual medals at regional games (SEA Games/Asian Games). Based on the times at the 2018 Asian Games she could potentially podium in the 50, 100, 200 free and 100 back but her events besides backstroke have all gotten stronger in Asia in recent years.

Apparently the Women's 50m Butterfly at the European Juniors needed two swim-offs between Hollie Widdows :GBR and Emmy Preiter :FRA, which the French girl won by 0.08 in the end.

Stopped watching sports, there are better things in life.

Surprised that nobody at all cared to discuss the European Junior Swimming championships :p

The star for Lithuania was Daniil Pancerevas, finishing 5th in 100m, 200m Freestyle and 200m Medley.

Another very promising thing was the relays, Lithuanian women broke the NR for both 4x200m and 4x100m Freestyle, finishing 5th and 7th in the final. Three of them were born in 2007, so the core of the team sticks for another two years, whilst Romanovskaja has one more year with the team too.

The men's 4x100m Freestyle relay also qualified to the final finishing 6th with a World Junior Championships qualifying mark.

One semifinal each for Geriksonaitė (50m backstroke), Plytnykaitė (50m freestyle) and Statkevičius (200m freestyle) that were the other three members of the women's relay.

Lastly, semifinal for Kajus Stankevičius in 200m backstroke and Kiril Stepanov in 100m freestyle.

No medals, but the core quality of the team is rising every year and also more and more talented young women representing the team well, so it's no longer only a breaststroke affair for us. Really see a bright future for Lithuanian swimming if, of course, the swimmers continue on with their career.

well, not that this edition was extremely interesting (2 CR in total, 1 among the boys, 1 among the girls)...

Popovici (ROU) and Galossi (ITA) swimming good times to dominate their respective events, but not going even close to their best clockings after having already performed in Budapest among the seniors...

the only expected champion to improve himself was the Polish Masiuk in the 50/100/200 backstroke...

among the teams, Poland have surely the best results, with Romania showing more than just Popovici (a cery interesting Stancu in the freestyle middle/long distances) and Italy struggling to keep in touch (if it wasn't for Galossi)...

also among the girls there was no wow! effect...

Hungary as always looks to have the most and best talents, especially Padar, but it's still too early to say what's the future ahead of these girls (the best youngsters aged 15/17 are not from Europe and already have their place on the senior stage)...

among those expected to good results, Jefimova (EST) dominated the breastroke with ease, but not so impressive times (same situation of Popovici & co.)...

Pudar (BIH) lost the 100m fly, but won the 50 and 200, but always with not so impressive times

Turkey are also high in the medal table thanks to their controversial middle distance specialists (Merve Tuncel above all), but I'm sure they won't become true stars at the top level...
