The annoying thing is the US still hasn't ponied up the funds to host even a single world champs in its whole history. mrv86

An athlete lucky enough to have their career peak during these years can achieve quite an inflated number of world titles. We won't have a WCh in 2023. Fukuoka was replaced by Budapest, they won't host the Championships next year.

The insertion of this meet also means we are set to see a World Championships now in 3 consecutive years: 2022 Budapest, 2023 Fukuoka, 2024 Doha. The decision of the global regulator means that a World long-course Championships will, as things stand, be held in June 2022, June 2023, January 2024 and July 2025. February 7, 2022 may go down as swimming’s Dilution Day, the moment when a showcase that used to be held once every four years between Olympics became an annual event. With Monday’s announcement, it means there will be a major global long-course meet in June 2022, July 2023, January 2024 and July 2025.

pdr4332 149 Posted February 7, 2022 #15 Share Posted February 7, 2022 Well, the joint criminal enterprise (officially known as the "government" of ) going to steal either way, at least now I get something out of it :D There should be some new arrangement with regards to the next competitions. Having one every year up to 2025 is insane
pdr4332 149 Posted February 7, 2022 #16 Share Posted February 7, 2022 Eurosport in Hungarian published some details from the chairman of swimming federation: - Due to cost savings there will be no extreme or high diving event - Duna Arena will host the swimming and diving events - Both artistic swimming and part of water polo will be in 2 different venues on Margaret Island (Margit sziget) - Open water will be held on Lupa lake inside Budapest, venue of last European Championship held in Hungary - During the group stage of water polo, 2-2 groups will be held at venues in Szeged, Debrecen and Sopron (these are venues built in the last few years) - No additional seats will be provided in Duna Arena, unlike in 2017 (open air venues for open water and water polo on Margitsziget might have additional temporary seats as it is easier and cheaper to build)

(Having worlds in 2022 isn't ridiculous, it's the January 2024 edition that is complete nonsense). well, having worlds in 2022 a few days before the European champs and the Commonwealth Games is pure nonsense... they should have just cancelled the Fukuoka worlds and go with the originally scheduled Doha worlds in Summer 2023 and stop... dullard and mrv86
