35km Greek National Race Walking Championships (Megara, Greece) -

Antigoni Drisbioti 2:47:48. WL and new PB/NR (her previous PB/NR was 2:49:55 from last year where she got gold at the European Race Walking Cup).

This is also the 9th best performance of all-time in the world in this event. Of course it is a new event but still, very good performance especially since the conditions today were not the best. She is 37 years old and works as a waitress at her family's tavern in a small city (Karditsa), and trains usually after midnight when the tavern closes

Also 2:51:51 for 21 yo Kiriaki Filtisakou, who easily gets the standard for Eugene WCH, her previous PB from last year was 2:55:10. Of course we don't know much yet as this is a new event, but seems like a very good result for her age. Second best in the world (after Drisbioti) as well.

if everything goes according to plan, 100m Olympic Champion, Marcell Jacobs, will make his season debut in Berlin, on February 4th...

last week, instead, Larissa Iapichino (May) made her comeback in the women's long jump after the injury that made her miss the Olympics...she did jump 6.59 in a meet in Ancona (ITA)...

in the same meet, 3 Italian sprinters ran the qualifying time for the Indoor Worlds in the men's 60m (Luca Lai was the fastest in 6.56)...

We are off in Karlsruhe.  New format for the field events is:

  • All jumps count
  • All athletes jump five rounds
  • Only three athletes jump the 6th round :mumble:
  • Leading athlete in 6th round jumps first so is actually disadvantaged

Featured Events this year are:

Women: 400m, 1500m, 60m hurdles, high jump, long jump
Men: 60m, 800m, 3000m/5000m, pole vault, triple jump, shot put

First place and 16.79 for :GRE Andreas Pantazis. WL and indoor PB. His improvement each year has been very impressive:

2015 - 14.36

2016 - 14.99

2017 - 15.01

2018 - 15.83

2019 - 16.08 (bronze at European U20 Championships)

2020 - 16.26i

2021 - 16.86

I think this year he will definitely go over 17m, maybe even 17.20m as long as he stays healthy. He’s still just 21 years old. A good prospect for us that has always been kind of under the radar compared to some of his Greek peers.

Also good to have another good triple jumper for Greece as Tsiamis is 39 yo and will be retiring after this year.
