Today, :BRA Larissa Paes skated a new national record on the 1.000m women. As I love stats, I looked up which national records have been improved this season so far as summarized below. With the world allround championships in Calgary and the world cup final in Salt Lake City this year, I expect a lot more national records to be improved during the later stages of the season.

Wow. 2008 world allround champion Paulien van Deutekom has died yesterday, aged 37, after she was diagnosed with lung cancer a few months ago. This was apparently rather unknown among fans (possibly she didn't make this a public affair), meaning nobody saw this coming in any way, shape or form..

Does anyone know what Neo-Senior means in the junior World Cup?

Which age group is it? I don't quite understand

@heywoodu

I'm not sure, but I believe most are 20+ year olds who aren't really good enough to break through :p

Neo Senior are born between 1 July 1995 and 30 June 1999

Junior are born between 1 July 1999 and 30 June 2004

Of course this is for the 2018-2019 season, next year you will have to add one year and so on ;)

World class sprinting at the Dutch championships last weekend :yikes:

Especially young Jutta Leerdam had an absolute breakthrough weekend, including a 1:13.99 1000m :bowdown:

Update on national records skated after the World Single Distances Championships in Inzell, which is the biggest update so far. Larissa Paes once more improved on her PBs and also a new NR for a Syrian skater. Furthermore some national records for more traditional speed skating countries such as Russia and Norway

Looking forward to the Wold Allround Championships in Calgary and the World Cup final in Salt Lake City (9-10 March) where a lot of NRs will be improved.
