Well, Norway may have broken our shared gold medal record, but Canada tied the bronze medal record today (ROC is there, too).  If a certain country is ultimately DQed from figure skating, we may have already broken it.

Hey, we need this!

We desperately need to win 2 more medals including one gold so we can equal the 2018 results :fingers: (more would be great of course but we've had so many disappointments already that I don't believe it's possible)

We got our gold but not our 15th medal :( We won't match our 2014 and 2018 record.

I've constructed a table of top 8 results, I'll post it tomorrow once the remaining events have finished.

Since everyone likes to complain finishing fourth, let's see who has won that count.

:ROC - 13

:USA - 10

:GER - 9

A very strong performance by Russia to win the battle of "so close yet so far away." One thing you may notice is that these nations are in the top five in terms of medals won so logically, it would make sense that these teams would finish with a lot of fourth places. So I decided to subtract their total with the expected total based on their top 8 finishes assuming even distribution. That gives us a top 3 of...

:ROC - 3.125

:FIN - 1.875

:GER - 1.625

I guess it's official, Russia was the unluckiest fourth place finisher. Finland moves up to second thanks to four 4th place finishes yet not many top 8 finishes. On the reverse side here are the nations which avoided fourth place the best using the same method

:KOR - -2.625

:ITA - -2.000

:NOR - -2.000

Fun fact, South Korea did not finish fourth in any event. Italy and Norway were interesting in that they had a bunch of 3rd and 5th place finishes, but not as many 4th places.

Pretty interesting to look at the number of different sports nations won medals in. The following nations won medals in 3 different sports:

Australia

Slovenia

Netherlands

...

...

...

...

...

...

...

...

...

...

...

...

...

...

...

...

...

...

...

...

Switzerland (and without Scherrer's bronze in men's snowboard halfpipe, they only would have won medals in 2 different sports)

Also here is the list of nations that have won medals in more different sports than Italy: Norway, Russia, Canada

Attachment is the great fabricator of illusions; reality can be obtained only by someone who is detached.
