Federer91 2,114 Posted December 19, 2021 #291 Share Posted December 19, 2021 Annecy made a strong pitch for a permanent spot on the calendar this weekend. Fantastic atmosphere and the IBU people surely have noticed it. It's becoming Nove Mesto 2.0 The only problem is that there is not enough rounds in a season for them all. And this is without Russia in the picture. To think that once upon a time biathlon was under the hat of modern pentathlon and look how things turned out. One is hitting peak popularity, while the other has been completely forgotten. IBU are probably blessing that split everyday. Werloc 3,125 Posted December 23, 2021 #296 Share Posted December 23, 2021 Imagine being Dale, 5th in the world last year, relegated to the IBU cup without a chance to qualify into the Olympics. Fell off + ratio
Monzanator 3,569 Posted December 23, 2021 #297 Share Posted December 23, 2021 I'm surprised more teams don't try to give citizenship to some of these Norwegians? I mean Lie's mother is Belgian so it wasn't a clear cut buyout but some of those lesser names will be wasted while they could have had some careers representing Belgium or Holland? Perhaps most of those Norwegians are too proud, or they have no plans of leaving their country? In Lithuania, we only pick up those athletes that have familial ties with Lithuania, which is the case with Paulauskaitė, Žurauskaitė, Čigak and Kresik. Which means that it's highly unlikely anyone that's not from Eastern Europe is going to end up in the Lithuanian team, We're going to send a weak figure skating pair to the Olympics, because we denied nationality twice to an American woman. RobtheAggie 337 Posted December 24, 2021 #299 Share Posted December 24, 2021 I have also wondered if Norwegian biathletes look at this as a pride thing. I am sure quite a few of them have relatives living in the US, but that would be admitting tha they were not strong enough.
