Swimming Australia keen to host FINA world championships, Eugenie Buckley’s grand plans - 6Nov21 Herald Sun

 

 

“Swimming Australia’s newly-appointed chief executive officer Eugenie Buckley has been quick off the blocks in reopening talks about bringing the biggest events to Australia in the build up to the Brisbane 2032 Olympics and Paralympics.

 

Australia has previously hosted the FINA World Aquatics Championships three times in:

 

  • 2007 Melbourne - Rod Laver Arena
  • 1998 Perth - Challenge Stadium (also when a 15yo Ian Thorpe first burst onto the world scene as the youngest ever world swimming champion)
  • 1991 Perth - Challenge Stadium
