vinipereira got a reaction from vlad in Totallympics Awards 2023
The year in sports brought a lot of joy and emotional moments to Totallympics members around the world. As we say goodbye to our annual awards, here's hope that 2024 can also be a memorable year for all sports fans, as we eagerly wait for the next Olympic Games. For now, we'll remember the moments that brought us together in 2023, presenting this edition's theme song: "Fight Song", by American singer and songwriter Rachel Platten.
Thank you all! Have a great year and until the next Totallympics Awards!

As we reach the end of the competitive categories, it's time for the Totallympics Stars Award, which honor our own members. Voted by their peers, these users have had a strong presence in our forum this year. Here, they are nominated for a variety of reasons, such as: organization of prediction contests, TISC hosting duties, discussions or sports info in our forum, and contributions to all Olympics qualification threads. As already stated, all members are valuable in making Totallympics the best sports forum on the internet. We salute you all, including those who are not listed. This year's Totallympics Stars Award honorees are:
@Laraja @Wumo @heywoodu @intoronto @Benolympique @rafalgorka @Josh @OlympicIRL @hckošice @JoshMartini007 @Gianlu33 @Cobi @Topicmaster1010 @phelps @Olympian1010

We'll, at least this isn't the Oscars, where a film usually wins a lot. Just like last year, all 10 competitive categories had a different nation as a winner ("Moment of the Year" doesn't count for medal table, but if it did would have 2 wins).

Jason Smyth
ATHLETICS
Once described as the fastest para-athlete of all time, Jason Smyth will be remembered as the man who never lost a competitive para athletics event in his entire career, winning every 100m and 200m race he entered since the European Championships in 2005. In addition to his 8 gold medals at the World Championships, the Irish sprinter is a 6-time Paralympic champion, winning gold medals in four consecutive Games. He made history in 2010 as the first Paralympian to compete in an open European Championships, and also represented Northern Ireland at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Competing in the T13 classification for the blind, he retires as the current Paralympic Champion in a event that he helped to redefine – currently also holding the world record in the 200m. Given his outstanding career, it is clear that Smyth's undeniable legacy will live on.

Christine Sinclair
FOOTBALL
2023 was the farewell year from international competitions for many football players, but few have had the impact of Christine Sinclair. Having played over 20 years for Canada, she has participated in 6 FIFA World Cups and 4 Olympic Games, captaining the team to third-place finishes in 2012 and 2016 and a historic gold medal in 2020. Along with the fact that she is one of only three players to score at five World Cup editions, Sinclair is officially the all-time world leader in international goals scored by men or women, with 190 goals. Shortlisted for FIFA Women's Player of the Year a total of seven times, she was referred by college teammate Megan Rapinoe as "the best player to never win the award". Indeed, her legacy and a brilliant career more than justifies a place in our Hall of Fame.

Tom Brady
AMERICAN FOOTBALL
A name that is synonymous with success, Tom Brady is widely regarded as the greatest quarterback of all time and one of the best players in NFL history. These titles are not an exaggeration when we consider his achievements during his 23 seasons as a player, 20 of which he spent with the New England Patriots. Brady led the team to 17 division titles, 9 Super Bowl appearances and 6 titles total, all records for a player and franchise. After joining the Buccaneers during his final seasons, Brady went on to win the Super Bowl LV, extending his individual records – which also include most games started. A five-time Super Bowl MVP (a record), Brady was instrumental for the sport's growing popularity in many countries, inspiring a legion of fans around the world and being considered NFL's first true global superstar.

Shingo Kunieda
WHEELCHAIR TENNIS
Since the introduction of the Wheelchair Tennis Tour in 1992, there has been no more prominent name than the great Shingo Kunieda, by far the most decorated male player in the history of the sport. Following his first Australian Open victory in 2007, Kunieda went on to win a total of 28 Grand Slam titles in singles and 22 in doubles throughout his career, completely dominating the field for nearly two decades and finishing as the No. 1 player of the year a total of 10 times. At the Paralympic Games, Kunieda is the only one to secure a medal in five consecutive times, winning four gold medals in total, including the 2020 men's singles title in his home country. These achievements alone ensure that his legacy will live on not only among future generations of Japanese players, but also through the Paralympic movement as a whole.

Annemiek van Vleuten
ROAD CYCLING
Considered one of the greatest Dutch athletes of all time, Annemiek van Vleuten first started cycling at the age of 23 to recover from a football injury. Oficially beginning her career at 25 after joining an amateur team in 2007, van Vleuten has enjoyed tremendous success as a professional cyclist, winning all three of the women's cycling Grand Tours equivalents and four gold medals at the World Championships – becoming, in 2022, the first woman to achieve the Triple Crown of Cycling. At the Olympic Games, van Vleuten was bound to win the title in 2016, but had a horrific crash while leading the race. Her long-waited gold medal moment came with a time trial victory at the Tokyo Olympics, a crowning achievement in an already brilliant career. After her retirement, she said she hoped to have inspired others. Her cycling years, certainly, are a testament to the power of resilience and human strength.
