In women's football Mexico was losing the final 0-1 to Costa Rica and then scored 3 goals in less than 4 minutes to win gold
 

Just like at the FIFA World Cup, the upper bracket is the stronger one.

Mexico still looking strong with 86 golds, 40 more than second place Colombia with 46 (Cuba has 38). 1st place seems very likely even if Mexico doesn't have a great second week.
 
Also gets me thinking how well Mexico will do at the next Pan American Games compared to nations from the region, considering Cuba's decline.
 

I think a playoff will be necessary between Canada and Brazil for the last spot. Of course Canada will win like 10-0, but technically they're not qualified yet

Ellie Soutter, who was due to compete at the World Junior championships in Snowboardcross, has died on her 18th birthday.

Tokyo Qualification Events have already begun and this year we have many of them.

It would be great if the idea of these Games could be revived at the near future, and I don't think the costs would be that higher if they pick existing venues in Canada or USA.

I know @heywoodu was joking, but he made me remember that once we had a Winter Pan American Games in 1990. But of course USA and Canada won all the medals and the idea has not been revived since - there was only 1 sport anyway (alpine skiing)
 
I wonder if today participation would increase and maybe Brazil could win a medal at something (at least Mexico or Colombia would probably win a bronze medal in Ice Hockey considering a participation of Canada and USA with some Z teams)

I would have expected them to pick double Olympic champion Mariana Pajon to light the torch, given she's not going to be able to compete. But I guess they decided to give the honor to their local hero, Rentería.

The judges seem more excited than most athletes. Nice for them to have their moment to shine
 

Well, the schedule of these Games is very "tight", so I guess some athletes had to skip the ceremony.
 

Am I the only one noticing some similarities with the Rio opening ceremony? Especially regarding the design and overall elements (like the stage with singers/dancers/climbers at one side and the place where the flag will be raised at the other)?
 
Anyway, even with some technical issues (lighting and the projection of the images could be better) they're doing a good enough job.
