  1. No one mentioning it, since heywoodu is who knows where, but yesterday Victor Campenaerts did it in Aguascalientes. Beating the Wiggins hour world record, the previous one was 54.526 from Summer 2015
  2. Which sport has the best fans, yes, Ice Hockey Name me one sport where fans will applaude and chant the name of a player from your opponents team. Fans of Banská Bystrica and their standing ovation and shouting the name of Samuel Buček from Nitra after he was named the Play-offs MVP after the end of the last match of our Extraliga final yesterday
  3. You were faster haha, I just came here to say it. But man what a shocker, being kicked out 4-0 by Columbus lol
  4. ECUADOR After the Czech Republic´s entry yesterday, it´s time now to introduce for the TAISC 2019 Festival of music the entry of Ecuador. After a hard fight between the two rising stars from Guayaquil Nikki Mackliff, Maga Cordova and the already well established Mia Orellana, Fausto Miňo and the unique and still disarmingly charming Mirella Cesa (unfortunately her La Corriente is not eligible for this edition anymore, I´ll never stop to blame myself to not presented it last year), I decided to select Maga Córdova and her current big hit Error Tras Error Maga Córdova - Error Tras Error
  5. Exact. They are now only the second club to win the golden hattrick, Only HC Košice won the extraliga three times in a row before 2009-2011.

  7. Serbia’s gold spree In a roller-coaster ride of the tournament, with a seemingly never-ending supply of twists and turns, Serbia won gold at the 2019 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championships Division II Group A in Belgrade. Down but never out, Marko Brkusanin became Serbia’s hero when he coolly slotted home the game-winning penalty shot against Spain and lifted the hosts into the 2020 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championships Division I Group B. A desperate Serbian team had only been in fourth place, when they were offered a lifeline in their final game against Spain. Blueliner Stefan Boskovic drew them level with 28 seconds left of the third period before Serbia´s netminder Arsenije Rankovic then saved three out of four Spanish penalty shots as 1,276 cheering home fans lifted the roof inside Belgrade´s Ice Rink Pionir. Serbia’s 3-2 win over Spain marks the end of a historical season and possibly the start of a new exciting chapter for Serbian hockey. Serbia´s U20 and U18 national teams had already won gold at their respective World Championships at Division IIB level. Now they were joined by the senior team who won Serbia´s third consecutive gold medal this season and their first one at senior level since 2009. 17-year-old prospect Marko Dragovic played an integral part in Serbia´s success this season winning gold in all three categories. En route to their gold, Serbia first saw off Croatia (3-1) before losing to Australia (2-3). They bounced back with straight wins against China (6-5) and Belgium (6-3) before finally toppling Spain following a nerve-racking final round of games. Serbia´s final day celebrations was made possible thanks to neighbours Croatia, who earlier that day edged Australia, the leader of the standings after four days, 2-1. Both teams then watched on as Serbia collected their gold medals while dwelling on what could have been. Croatia, who came within an earshot of gold, had to settle for silver, while Australia who entered the final day in pole position, finished up with the bronze medals. At the other end of the table, Belgium got relegated to Division IIB after losing the deciding game for fifth place to China. Aleksa Lukovic´s goal after 4:10 had put Serbia ahead against Spain. Gaston Gonzalez hit back with an equaliser at 26:03. An Oriol Rubio power-play goal at 46:34 got Spain ahead and temporarily silenced the home crowd before Serbia´s last gasp leveller got their promotion campaign back on track and take the game into overtime, which finished goalless. The influential Rubio scored Spain´s sole penalty marker in the shootout, while Serbia’s 20-year-old Mirko Djumic, voted the best forward of the tournament, also coolly slotted home his penalty in the shootout. “After the shootouts and all the excitement I was shaking, but our players were used to this as they were three goals behind against China earlier in the tournament,” said Milovanovic. During game day three against China, Serbia appeared to have dug themselves into a hole. With just over 11 minutes left of the game, China was cruising with a 5-2 lead. A frantic fightback saw Serbia score three unanswered goals to draw level with 1:36 to go. Then newly appointed head coach Alexandre Dandenault went for bust in what in hindsight turned out to be a masterstroke. With 14 seconds left of the third frame and with netminder Rankovic pulled from the net, 19-year-old debutant Viktor Kastel sealed all three points for Serbia as team morale got a monumental boost. With his 5 points (3+2) Sretovic was Serbia´s joint top-scorer and together with Stefan Ilic, the two sole survivors on the roster who last won gold for Serbia at senior level. At the 2009 IIHF World Championship Division II Group B Sretovic tasted success and promotion in Novi Sad in what was different times for Serbian hockey. “At that time hockey was at the highest level in Serbia. That team was more experienced. This year we have many young players with a lot of speed who helped us to win many of our games,” said Sretovic, who after winning his second gold at senior level has come full circle in a long and distinguished national team career. “This was my absolute last season for the national team. I wanted to finish where everything once started,” said Belgrade-born Sretovic as he expects next season to be a stern test for his compatriots playing at a much higher level. “It will be very tough, much harder than this. We need more preparation and a training camp as the guys should be ready to work hard with a lot of defending to be expected. I hope the head coach (Dandenault) and the staff will continue for next year,” said Sretovic. During the first game of the final round, there was a hint of nostalgia inside Ice Rink Pionir as ex-Yugoslavian friendship came to the fore with the Belgrade-crowd cheering on neighbours Croatia to the tilt against Australia. A win for Croatia also meant that hopes for Serbian gold were kept alive. The Croats did not disappoint. Shaone Morrisonn and Dominik Kanaet were on target for Croatia as they edged Australia 2-1. Croatia who came down from the 2018 IIHF World Championship Division I Group B last year saw Croatia head coach Enio Sacilotto made a dozen of changes this year’s roster, which still came within a whisker from sealing a straight return to the higher division. “After relegation last year we came here hoping for gold. We only lost against Serbia and they won the World Championships. This year we brought in ten young kids into our team, so maybe next year will be better,” said Croatia´s captain Marko Tadic. Australia, who as recently as 2016 were languishing in Division IIB, has since won two consecutive silver medals in Division IIA. Despite not playing a game for five months, they bounced back and came into their stride after an opening overtime defeat against Belgium before falling at the final hurdle against fellow gold-chasing Croatia. “It’s was obviously not the result we wanted. We battled hard, but couldn´t capitalize on our chances. Their goalie and penalty kill were really good and unfortunately, that’s just the way it goes. We will pick up another medal which is great but not the colour that we wanted,” said captain Thomas Powell, who together with netminder Anthony Kimlin is one of the two players from the 2012 team that also last represented Australia in Division IB. Having been on the receiving end of a fair share of bad breaks and hard luck, China finally came good when it mattered the most. In their relegation decider, they got their first points on board as they blanked Belgium 4-0 to stay in the group. It was also to be China´s sole game of the tournament where they spent fewer minutes than their opponent in the penalty box. Belgium, who already flirted with relegation last year, had drafted in Mike Kolodziejczyk as head coach. His son Bryan was the tournament´s top scorer with 9 points (2+7) while Sam Verelst finished third (4+3) in scoring but it was all to be in vain. Finishing bottom, they now need to get back to winning ways in at the 2020 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championships Division II Group B. “We are currently rebuilding. We have a very young team with very few returnees from last year. It’s tough with these young kids, but they are coming along. Even if we got relegated, I think there are some positives to come out of it which we can build on for the next years to come,” said Belgium´s head coach Kolodziejczyk. IIHF.COM

  17. Another win for Chinese Taipei Chinese Taipei bounced back at the first attempt, winning all three games to top the table in the 2019 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 World Championship Division III Group B. And it was a free-scoring performance from Ryan Lang’s team, with a 4-2 victory over host nation South Africa followed by a 9-2 win over Luxembourg and a comprehensive 9-1 triumph in the gold medal showdown against Hong Kong. The tournament win came just two days after the women’s team had won Division II Group B gold. Hockey at this level can throw up some unusual challenges: Chinese Taipei faced a trip of almost 8,000 miles to play at this tournament in Cape Town, South Africa. The team landed the day before its first game, had a brief skate then slept before taking on the host nation and the jet lag to land that 4-2 verdict. Another problem can come from having a relatively small league where the country’s top players are accustomed to competing with one another and developing those competitive rivalries. Head coach Lang explained in an interview with YouTuber Teemu Hinkula: “Most of our guys represent four or five different clubs, they’re used to competing against each other as the best players on their teams so getting them together and playing for each other can be a bit of a struggle. But once they understand ‘hey, we’re one team, playing as one country’, it gets a lot better.” An extra night’s sleep can help, too. After admitting that his team was “sluggish at times” against South Africa, Lang saw them wake up to demolish Luxembourg. That set up a showdown against Hong Kong – something of a local derby at barely 500 miles between the two – as the two undefeated teams went head to head for gold. However, the indicators between these islanders favoured Chinese Taipei – Hong Kong had scored fewer and allowed more against the same opposition – and the game reflected that. Four goals in the first period, two of them for Hung-Li Chou, the tournament’s leading scorer, effectively decided the outcome. The game turned into something of a procession with Taipei piling on the goals. The only disappointment came after 53 minutes when Ryan Chu scored on Po-Yu Hsiao, denying him the chance to finish his tournament with a shut-out. Lang immediately threw on Sheng-Wei Chung for the closing minutes, maximizing the opportunities for his understudy goalie to sample World Championship action. And maximizing opportunities for new players was a big part of the whole trip for Lang, a long-serving part of Chinese Taipei hockey who coaches the national teams at all age groups. “We came here to win,” he told Hinkula. “We’ve basically got 90 per cent of a new team. We’ve got bunch of younger guys who we can go back to for two, some of them three years playing in under-18 hockey. Hopefully we can start to build something here.” Only seven of Lang’s roster returned from last season and their experience brought some handy scoring, especially from forwards Yi-Hsiang Hsu (2+4), Po-Hsiang Chung (2+2) and Ho-Yun Chuang (3+2). But it was new faces who caught the eye, from goalie Hsiao, who stopped 91.94 of the shots he faced, to forward Chou who topped the scoring race with 9 (5+4) points. Hong Kong’s Chu pipped Chou for the goalscoring prize with that late consolation effort against Taipei taking him to six for the tournament. Chu also collected the prize for top forward, which David Church of Luxembourg winning best defenceman and Hsiao getting the leading goalie nomination. South Africa came third in the four-team group, edging Luxembourg in a shoot-out after an engrossing 5-5 tie to bring down the curtain on this year’s championship. Next season’s group could feature representatives of four different continents. New Zealand was relegated from Division IIIA and the Oceania nation is currently set to play Luxembourg (Europe), Hong Kong (Asia) and South Africa. IIHF.COM

  21. what a KO from Ovechkin to his young countrymen and Boston lost again.. but Calgary...
  22. IIHF statement about the situation.. At first view I don´t see any interest of the FIN player to make a contact with the goalie, who had literally only a part of her foot in the crease...this is just too strict reading of the rules IMO, this would be a good goal in 1 of 100 other matches... but well, sometimes the rules works for some and sometimes not...this reminds me of this, when suddenly there were no problem to allow the goal
