SalamAkhi got a reaction from Styrka in Biathlon IBU Cup 2021 - 2022
France IBU Cup globes tally is suffering a Zimbabwean inflation +400%
From 1 (Chloé Chevalier Pursuit 17/18) to probably 5.
Nations Cup is looking clear, Colombo has won the sprint, Jeanmonnot has already secured the super-sprint and it seems she's made what needed to be done today to conquer the Big one.
It shows the density of this B team.

When the war is against the west, to be precise.

SalamAkhi reacted to LDOG in Russia-Ukraine Crisis Consequences in Sports
War is more serious than doping. CAS will 100% uphold the ban or their funding and recognition will end. And yes, it will be a completely political and not legal ruling.
Every international organization acts neutral until their money is on the line.

It's foolish to think that the US would ever get this kind of treatment if they start a war anywhere. I wouldn't even blame racism why there wouldn't be boycotts in the case of another war in the Middle East similar to Iraq. People are only up in arms about this war because they see Ukraine as a democratic country that wants to join the West. If Russia would have invaded Belarus the international reaction wouldn't be anywhere near as dramatic. Sure, people were protesting against wars initiated by the US, but in the end it's our ideology (democracy, freedom) against a country or countries with an opposing ideology. If the US invades Iran the next day in the name of protecting freedom and democracy and whatever bullshit casus belli they fabricate this time, Europe would join them, and nobody would even talk about sanctions.

So no more freedom of opinion ?
"Are you unconditionally against the invasion" ? "Yes of course (not at all in fact, what are you gonna do ? Torture me ?)".
What about non-Russians/Belarussians possibly in favor of it too ? Are we implementing a kind of "Freedom Pass" ? "I see you've not provided any position on this matter on Instagram, please proceed or we shall consider you pro-Russian".

SalamAkhi reacted to heywoodu in Biathlon at the Winter Olympic Games Beijing 2022
In World Cups or biathlon world championships there is no problem at all, it's their own sports' event, so do whatever they like. It's just nonsense to have a set of Olympic medals for what's essentially a qualifying event.
But yeah, it's never going to change, so anyway. The chance is bigger to see the supersprint added at one point and the qualifying of the supersprint being awarded a set of medals as well later

This is basically what the Dutch Eurosport commentator (a former World Cup biathlete) also often says: "Sure, there are the sprint gaps, but the races are still generally exciting and basically nobody finishes in the spot they started in!"
Yeah. I mean...

I tried it on French or international "specific" forums, never seen anybody fully agree. Sometimes they admit it's pretty unfair but say "hey it's cool and historic now so we won't remove it", most of the times I get "downvoted" and considered strange or outrageous "hey other sports are the same, pursuit is EXCITING". I keep saying its status is unique and with nothing alike but they dodge the argument.

The only other forum where I talk about a biathlon, a Dutch one (very active at least during the Olympics, decent outside of it), always agrees with it being utter nonsense to have a set of Olympic medals both for a qualifying event and the 'main' event
It's kind of like giving Olympic medals for the short program in figure skating, and then also one for the overall, whilst still counting the short program scores. It's perfectly fine for the world championships of said sports, but not so much for the Olympics, where events should be as much as possible stand-alone events, with everyone who starts having 'equal' chances (as far as possible of course).

What an exciting race ... if IOC would be remotely sensible, they would take the pursuit off the program. This event makes zero sense.

I believe it's the only Olympic event where you get a direct advantage from another Olympic event, right?
If I had my way there would be a sprint that awards medals and a separate sprint that is used as qualifying for the pursuit, as impractical as that may seem.

I remember some here making fun of Geisenberger back in November when she said she considered not coming back to China. "Ahah she's making it look like a choice but she won't be selected altogether".

SalamAkhi reacted to De_Gambassi in Whose medal in Beijing 2022 would be the biggest fun & joy for you? Here you can choose only between athletes REPRESENTING YOUR NATION.
Maurice Manificat in a single event, but sadly that seems very unlikely this time. Tessa Worley then.

SalamAkhi reacted to Dunadan in Who tested positive and is, or might be, out of the Winter Olympic Games Beijing 2022?
As I said before Tokyo, they had to organize things like this: everyone flying to Beijing 10 days (at least) before the Games - since there is way less people involved in the Winter Olympics accomodation shouldn't have been that big of a problem. First test on the day of the arrival, quarantine if positive, and then no more tests until departure.
I also have the feeling that the tests performed by the Chinese are very sensitive so every doubtful case will be marked as positive.

A bit late to answer but :
- Repinc has been injured (still is ?). She raced in Slovenia in December and appeared internationally (but at home) for the Junior European Championships where she has clearly seemed off the pace. Not too far back the others but not remotely close to what she have been doing last season.
- Frolina is pregnant. Given her age the question is will she come back ?

Talk that NZ won't have a flag bearer at all but an official doing it and that no athletes will be present at the ceremony. Surely that's not the case, but if so NZ's paranoia with Covid from Stalinda Ardern has filtered through to the NZOC.

SalamAkhi got a reaction from Styrka in How Many Medals do You Expect from Your Nation at the Winter Olympic Games Beijing 2022?
Sebastien Lepape pulling a Bradbury
Team Event is another chance.
You mean individual skating Sprint ? A podium in the Team Sprint seems possible but not very likely, but M Relay is much better than a long shot. Bronze in Pyeongchang 2018, Bronze in Seefeld 2019, Bronze in Oberstdorf 2021 ... and now with Jouve as the anchor who has greatly improved his distance skills lately.

15, to, at least, maintain the tally from 2014 and 2018. A second straight downward trend would be disastrous before Paris 2024 but that's what we deserve.

The question is what happened to Skottheim? 56. with only two misses! They need her for the Relay, I think.
