Well if we want to fight for medal we have to win with this kind of teams. And to be honest if our guys won't get any I probably prefer that they loose in QF than in bronze medal match. I was really dissapointed when our handball team lost with Iceland in Beijing but it was nothing compare to their lost in Rio with Denmark. And we was bigger favourite in 2008 than in 2016.

Not likely, I'm affraid  Our biggest chance for gold in this century was Piotr Siemionowski and we all remember how it ended. And despite the fact that we have very talented girls and there is also Tomasz Kaczor, none of them is on position of Siemionowski before London.

That's only quarterfinals  Of course I will be watching matches, especially the one with our team but finals are more important to me.

Day 11 Tuesday would be one of the most interesting days in Tokyo.

This is quarterfinals day in all of my 3 favourite men's team sports - volleyball, basketball and handball. Win or go home, they say.

In men's volleyball I hope Poland would finally make it to the semis, after 4 QF losts in a row in '4, '8, '12 and '16. But it won't be an easy task, because we would probably play against USA, Brazil, France or Russia (or maybe Argentina coached by Julio Velasco). With every one of these teams we played very tense and hard-won matches in the past. There were some easy wins, too. But there were some lost games. So it's hard to predict but I do believe Wilfredo Leon will make a difference here and we will be in the semis. If we would win a QF against Russia - that would be superfun for me.
I hope that there wouldn't be schedule collision - volleyball Poland game vs athletics, canoeing or gymnastics. That's not very probable though.

In basketball we still have a slim chance to advance to the olympics, but we would have to beat Lithuania in Lithuania to do it. We won against China in China in wch 2019, but that would be much more difficult task. So these olympics QF would be rather without us, but still decent games to follow. Can anybody surprise USA here?

In handball there would be no Polish team in Tokyo. The superfast decline from 4th place in Rio to going to the next world champs only by getting wild card is very devastating for me. Anyway, there will be some tense matches with very fierced endings - that's what I like the most.

    Then athletics obviously.
M 400 hurdles - Karsten Warholm WR? It may be one of the most memorable events of the whole games.
M Pole Vault - Mondo Duplantis WR? I hope it will be an amazing event - maybe all 3 medalists will jump 6.00 m at least, and Piotr Lisek among them
W 800m final - a very open race if Caster Semenya really isn't there
and W hammer throw final - I think Anita Włodarczyk will decide to come to Tokyo only when she would feel that she's capable of 3rd straight gold. I hope she will but I'm afraid it will be very difficult. Be careful of US throwers here.

Then last gymnastics finals with my favourite events - beam and horizontal bar.

And first canoe sprint finals - Poland had many olympics medals in canoeing, but - it's hard to believe for me - we don't have one single gold yet. Would it happen in Tokyo eventually? Who knows. But on Tuesday there could be 2 medals in women's K1 200m and K2 500m.

And finally - women's beach volleyball quarters and men's football semis.

Wow, that's a lot to follow in one day.

Day 11 I would watch gymnastics finals, athletics, beach volleyball, canoe sprint finals, diving, sailing medal races, debut of sport climbing, maybe USA basketball quarterfinal, boxing, cycling track and other team sports

    - Artistic Gymnastics - last day of apparatus finals
    - Athletics - Men's Pole Vault final, Duplantis vs Kendricks should one of the most interesting competitions of this Games. And of course Women's Hammer Throw final in which, I'm sure of it, Anita Wlodarczyk will win gold.
    - Boxing - first finals
    - Canoe Sprint - especially Women's K1 200m and K2 500m where I count for medals
    - Track Cycling - Men's Team Sprint is always very spectaculary
    - Sailing - Finn and Nacra medal races
    - Wrestling - another Greco-Roman finals and of course women's competition

Day 11 is could be a special day for the Netherlands with medal chances in track cycling (men's sprint) and gymnastics (men's horizontal bar, women's balance beam) and in a best case scenario in athletics (women's 200m). I don't exactly expect Sanne Wevers and Dafne Schippers guaranteed medals, but you know I can always hope

And then there's water polo quarter finals, field hockey semifinals and beach volleyball quarter finals.

If the Dutch contenders don't provide enough content, there is still sports climbing, men's volleyball quarters and the rest of the track cycling, athletics and gymnastics programs to watch.

    Ok, let's see:

Atlanta 1996 - Magic day 21st of July. Three gold medals for Poland: Ryszard Wolny (greco-roman wrestling 68kg), Andrzej Wroński (greco-roman wrestling 100kg) and Pawel Nastula (judo 95kg). Poland was even leader of medal table I believe because we had four golds at that time (Renata Mauer get one in 10m air rifle day before that) but I'm not sure.

Nagano 1998 - To be honest I don't have one. It was time I was still very young and I was watching olympics only because of polish athletes and we wasn't very good in winter sports back then  (but there was some good starts like Andrzej Bachleda in alpine combined or men's biathlon relay)

Sydney 2000 - Robert Korzeniowski gold in 20km race walking. He was second when he cross the line but after the race winner Mexican Segura was DSQ for running. Korzeniowski found out about that during interview for polish television.

Salt Lake City 2002 - Bjoerndalen four gold medals in biathlon, Lajunen three golds in nordic combined and of course Steven Bradbury.

Athens 2004 - Magic day for Argentina. Two golds, one in basketball, one in football. First golds from a very long time.

Torino 2006 - Shaun White gold in halfpipe and Martins Rubenis gets first winter medal for Latvia.

Beijing 2008 - Bolt beating Johnson's WR on 200m and three golds of Chris Hoy.

Vancouver 2010 - Kowalczyk beat Bjoergen in 30km and Steven Holcomb gold in four-man bobsleigh.

London 2012 - Opening ceremony and Felix Sanchez gold.

Sochi 2014 - I don't know, it was magical olympics. Two golds of Kamil Stoch, gold of Zbigniew Brodka (who wins it with advantage of 0,003s!), gold of Justyna Kowalczyk (won with broken foot). And ladies first ski jumping competition.

Rio 2016 - Wayde van Niekerk WR on 400m and Ruth Beitia gold in high jump. And also WR of Anita Wlodarczyk in hammer.

Pyeongchang 2018 - Two gold medals in two-man bobsleigh for Kripps and Friedrich, David Gleirscher gold in men's singles luge and German ice hockey team.

Tokyo 2020 - Opening ceremony because when it'll begin I'll know that everything is just fine.

    Lillehammer 1994 -
Slovakia - Canada 3-1 and the president of the republic considered establishing that day as a new national holiday...

    Atlanta 1996 -
First ever participation of newly independent Slovakia at the Summer Olympics and 1st Gold won by a unknown 16 years old kid named Michal Martikán

    Nagano 1998 -
I remember how I woke up in the morning at 4 AM and watched the women's biathlon relay, 3/4 of the races we were clearly in the golden position, but in the end we finished just behind the podium in fourth place. I remember how I cried. one of those fucking days it was then... remember we were still without any WOG medal at that time

    Sydney 2000 -
The Hochschorner Bros winning the C2 Canoeing Slalom gold with literally havig fingers in their nose was simply magic. + watching SVK football, Basketball and water polo teams playing at the Olympics, something still almost unbelievable for our country

    Salt Lake City 2002 -
Disaster for our hockey, due stupid rules of NHL owners, all our stars were allowed to play in the tournament only from the main round, so first SVK had to qualify from the 1st round, we send like 9 players for those 3 matches and were hoping to qualify, obviously we finished last of the group...so my memory to watch all our huge NHL stars arriving before the last preliminary round game and sitting in the stands is just one of the worst I can remember...
Thanks god 3 months later our stars were back and we became the World Champions ! one of the biggest paradoxes in sport history

    Athens 2004 -
My first true Olympics, I watched in integrality, almost 24 h/per day. I remember visiting my doc and offered him 20 Slovak crowns asking him if he can write me a 2 week absence, I was super happy when he did it, I was 2 weeks closed in my room watching the Olympics lol...this became a tradition now, so since 2004 I became a real Olympics addicted and

    Torino 2006 -
First ever Slovak WOG medal won by a guy I never heard about before and never heard again after. a certain Radoslav Židek in the Snowboard Cross of all sports lol

    Beijing 2008 -
Our best Olympics, 3 Gold medals in 2 days, 2 Gold medals in 2 hours and total domination of our Canoeing Slalom destroying the opponents winning 3 of the 4 golds available in this sport

    Vancouver 2010 -
My favorite Games. I just love them. First SVK gold Kuzmina in the opening day, SVK ice hockey triumph in the quarterfinals over SWE 4-3 but also the tears after the loss in the Bronze medal match to Finland 3-5 (when we were still leading 3-1 after the 2nd period) The last real tournament of our golden generation.

    London 2012 -
The worst games for SVK. The only summer olympics without any gold medal, literally a failure after failure in our team...at least my fav athlete Jessica Ennis-Hill winning gold saved the games for me

    Sochi 2014 -
Another gold for Anastasiya Kuzmina in Biathlon W Sprint...but otherwise nothing but disappointement...losing to Slovenia with the NHL full pack team we had there is one of the worst memories I have from sport..oh man, I still remember it like yesterday, I was so pissed...you realy must see such match to understand the nightmare experiences I had

    Rio 2016 -
First ever SVK gold from another sport than Canoe Slalom...man it was about time the epic Matej Tóth 50km Race Walk gold is something I will remember for all my life.

    PyeongChang 2018 -
Kuzmina triumph in the mass start meaning she became the first female biathlete to win gold at 3 consecutive Winter Olympics...

Don't know if this works outside of Poland but here's the infamous last round of the Atlanta 1996 10m air rifle where Renata Mauer won gold after Petra Horneber blew a 1,7 pt lead with the last shot. Even the Polish commentator was convinced this is only a battle for silver & bronze and Horneber has a gold in the bag. She had until she choked it away...  Only Matthew Emmons in the 2008 three positions last round can challenge that but he blamed it on a premature trigger reaction IIRC.

and today is exactly 40 years from the only Olympic team sports Gold for Czechoslovakia.

The 2nd of August 1980 former Czechoslovakia defeated in the last Moscow 1980 event the former   1-0 in the Men Football tournament to win the only and single Olympic Team sports gold in the history of the country (Until Nagano 1998 Ice Hockey triumph of Czech Rep.)

The team played its group stage in former Leningrad (St. Petersburg) beating 3-0 and despite two later quite disappointing ties against 1-1 and 0-0 won the group to stay in Leningrad for the quarterfinal where they eliminated 3-0. In the semifinal in Moscow Czechoslovakia defeated the former 2-0 to qualify for the gold medal match

Interesting enough, Despite winning only this single gold Czechoslovakia won in total 14 medals in team sports at the Olympics in its history (1920-1992)

    2 in Football  (1-1-0)

Gold in Moscow 1980 and Silver in Tokyo 1964. Fun fact Czechoslovakia was in the Gold medal match also during its olympic debut in Antwerp 1920. But the history mention the team as DSQ. After the players left the field in protest against the refereeing in favor of host Belgium during the final the team was DSQ and removed from the results.

1964 Silver medalists, the only Czechoslovakian team in history of the Olympics in whom the Slovak born athletes were in majority (9 of them)

    2 in  Volleyball  (0-1-1)

Silver iin Tokyo 1964 at the Volleyball Olympics debut and bronze in Mexico City 1968. One of the best ever Slovak Volleyball players Bohumil Golian played in both toutrnaments. He was even honored being the flag bearer of Czechoslovakia at the Mexico City 1968 Opening Ceremony parade of nations

    1 in  Handball  (0-1-0)

Silver in Munich 1972 with 3 Slovak players the team lost to in the final 16-21

    1 in  Field Hockey  (0-1-0)

Silver in Moscw 1980, Already wrote about tis total WTF miracle, a team with 3 Slovak girls was send to Moscow only as a replacement of many other decling replacements at the very last momet. the girls were literally "collected" just a couple of days before the games began. many of them were at work or on vacations, they came, and returned home with a shocking silver. Despite this success, the sport never succeed to gain any particular popularity or attention in both countries sadly. And is still almost inexistant.

    4 in  Ice Hockey  (0-4-4)

The most popular and national sport in both countries. Sadly Czechoslovakia never won Gold at the Olympics (a triumph that later achieved Czech Republic in the memorable Nagano 1998 tournament of the century)

First bronze already in Antwerp 1920 during the Summer Olympics as the best team behind the giants from and . There were no Slovaks in the team tough.
in the first post WWII WOG in 1948 St- Moritz the team won Silver (lost gold) only via goal average rule, the team shockingly tied with 0-0 but the overall goal average of the tournament ended in favor of the Canadians 69-5 to 80-18 for Czechoslovakia). The team was led by One of the biggest star of Slovak hockey history Ladislav Troják.
In Innsbruck 1964 Another Bronze with 3 Slovak players in the team including huge stars like one of the best world goalies Vladimír Dzurilla and top winger Jozef Golonka.
In Grenoble 1968 another silver again with 3 slovaks including Dzurilla and Golonka, the team lost the gold in the last day after the 2-2 draw with Sweden. Was a real shame to lost this such way a day after the heroic win over the 15 years unbeaten . A match that had a huge political background in the country followig the unfortunate 1968 politic affars...was full of blood and dirty provocations,
with one of the most famous Golonka putting his ear to the ice after scoring the winning goal as if listening to the Russians not turn off the gas

In Sapporo 1972 another Bronze disappointement and 3rd medal for the slovak goalie of history Vlado Dzurilla.
1976 the Innsbruck silver without slovaks in the team.
Silver in Sarajevo 1984. One of the best TCH hockey teams in history led by Slovak elite line Vincent Lukáč-Dárius Rusnák-Igor Liba were among the top favs for gold, sadly the lost the most important final game to USSR 0-2 and finshed nce again with Silver.
and the last Czechoslovak Team sport Olympic medal in Albertville 1992. a Bronze won also by slovaks in the team like Robert Švehla, Igor Liba, Peter Veselovský or the goalie Jaromír Dragan

I am almost glad that the Olympics got postponed, since Olympic Channel probably never would have uploaded these films otherwise.

Athens 2004 - Tímea Nagy wins her second gold medal in Women's épée. First Hungarian gold I have ever watched live. I was really young, but I remember being extremely stressed out as we had Nagy in one SF, and Mincza-Nébald (the other Hungarian fencer) in the other SF, both against French fencers, and both semi-finals ended with 15-14 (sadly Mincza-Nébald lost and got a 4th place). Honorable mention to the men's water polo final, which I couldn't watch live, where Hungary managed to win despite Serbia and Montenegro controlling most of the match and having a 3-0 lead early on.

Turin 2006 - Antoine Dénériaz takes the gold in Men's Downhill as the thirtieth racer by a huge margin.

Beijing 2008 - Kozmann and Kiss finishes 3rd in Men's C2 1000m one month after Kozmann's former partner, György Kolonics, suddenly passed away.

Vancouver 2010 - Petra Majdic (duh), that bronze medal is legendary

London 2012 - Iceland has a 1 goal lead 14 seconds before the end of QF against Hungary in men's handball and has the opportunity to seal it with a penalty. Fazekas (Hungarian goalkeeper) saves the penalty, and with a quick turnover Hungary equalizes the match in a couple of seconds.

Sochi 2014 - Tie for the gold in Women's downhill

Rio 2016 - Emese Szász turning the match around from 7-11 against two-time World Champion Rossella Flamingo in the final of Women's épée and winning the gold. (too bad that we experienced the opposite of that in men's épée a couple of days later )

PyeongChang 2018 - first ever Hungarian gold at the Winter Olympics (duh)

Yep, definitely going to have to show my age here. I’ll write first about memories from Games I watched, and then about moments I’ve seen from other Games.

Torino 2006 - I was five. I vaguely remember watching snowboarding (I think it was Parallel GS) with mom. I can remember anything besides that. I just know I watched some events on a weekend afternoon with my mother.

Beijing 2008 - Remember watching the opening ceremony. I remember watching coverage of Phelps swimming pursuits. I remember sitting on the floor of my living room watching Bolt win his first gold medal.

Vancouver 2010 - These Olympics were in the same time zone as me. Unfortunately, I missed quite a bit because of school. I do remember racing home to watch the cross country sprint finals though. I also remember watching Vonn’s golden performance.

London 2012 - Again, who doesn’t remember the opening ceremony. I actually strangely don’t remember a lot from these Games. I vaguely remember watching some track cycling with my dad, but that’s it. I know I followed the Games just as I would now, but for reason I just don’t have a lot of memories.

Sochi 2014 - The opening ceremony is unfortunately memorable for the epic mishap with the rings. I actually enjoyed the ceremony besides. I remember the Russian teams entry into the stadium with that rap song. Torch lighting was pretty cool too. These Games are tainted too much by the Russian doping scandal for me to view warmly. I remember watching tons of cross country skiing and biathlon. The surprise silver medal for Andrew Weibrecht in Alpine Skiing was a good moment. I vividly remember watching the debut of slopestyle, as well as, many of the other freestyle events.

Rio 2016 - Another opening ceremony that won my heart over. I remember watching Fiji (who I had already been cheering for on the 7s tour for 2 years) progress towards the finals in men’s 7s. Unfortunately, I had fricken cross country practice, so I missed the final! I do remember being out in the middle of the desert running, while desperately checking my phone to see how Fiji was doing. I remember being elated with their victory. Another great memory was watching WVN win the 400m and break the world record with my dad (an athletics junkie). Having some connections to Casey Eichfield I also followed his progress in the C1. That was a fantastic competition. Really grew to love Judo at these Olympics. I’m pretty sure I watched every session of that. Of course I watched all my other favorites too: Sailing, Shooting, Track Cycling, Canoe Sprint, etc. Great memories from Rio.

Pyeongchang 2018 - First Olympics where I watched every event. Ester Ledecka’s coronation as snow queen of course tops my list. Caldwell/Diggins gold in the team sprint was a special moment for many Americans. In fact, I really enjoyed the cross country skiing at these Games. Biathlon was good as always. I remember Sweden being surprisingly good. I was a little disappointed with short track since  and  failed to win medals. As a roller speed skater, Pedro Causil’s 4th in the 1,000m was memorable. The same goes for Erin Jackson’s surprise qualification for games. These were a solid Games in my opinion.

    Other moments -

Basically any of the marathons from 1896-1908.

Squaw Valley 1960 - Not really a memorable Games, just love area. I have skated on the Olympic Ice Rink though, and I do remember that.

Barcelona 1992 - Cauldron lighting (I mean come on, who doesn’t love that).

Atlanta 1996 - Keri Shrug’s inspiring vault. Mohammad Ali fighting Parkinson’s to light the cauldron.

Park City 2002 - Don’t know much about the Games, but I’ve been to most of the venues. I really like the Park City area as well.

Athens 2004 - Opening Ceremony really began to set the standards for modern major multi sport games ceremonies.

Salt Lake City 2002 - Yeah, I watched the Bradbury fiasco live as well but I remember Jeremy Wotherspoon's stumble in the 500m speed skating more.

Athens 2004 - Borzhakovskiy's last-to-first works once, Jedrzejczak vs Thomas in the 200m butterfly. Robert Krawczyk loses a place in judo final 8 seconds from the end.

Torino 2006 - Evelyne Leu wins the women's aerials. Tomasz Sikora wins silver in mass start. Giorgio Rocca bombs out in slalom.

Beijing 2008 - Majewski wins gold in shot put. Katie Hoff completely bombs in the pool as Rice wins three golds IIRC.

Vancouver 2010 - Kowalczyk beats Bjoergen in the 30km finish.

London 2012 - Majewski & Zielinski wins two golds for Poland in a space of 20 minutes IIRC. Meilutyte wins gold.

Sochi 2014 - Mikaela Shiffrin wins slalom. Brodka beats Verweij by 0,007 in the 1500m speed skating.

Rio de Janeiro 2016 - Puig vs Kerber tennis final. Swimming was a full of surprises for me but maybe I lost track of some of these new names there.

Pyeongchang 2018 - Yes, have to go with women's Super-G and Ester Ledecka.

My Olympic memories doesn't go that far back due to my age.

Athens 2004 - My  first Olympic memory ever was me watching the men's shot put final from the Ancient Olympia Stadium and see Joachim B. Olsen winning bronze, later upgraded to silver. My favourite moment from the games however was the epic women's handball final between Denmark and South Korea. I remember little me was very entertained and excited throughout this final.

Torino 2006 - I didn't follow these games very much as I was still only watching sports occasionally. My favourite moment was probably watching Vincent Defrasne winning gold in men's pursuit, biathlon.

Beijing 2008 - First Olympics I watched clinched to the tv screen and tried to record as much of it on my tv-recorder.  My favourite moments from these Olympics are Usain Bolt's gold and WR on men's 100m and Yelena Isinbayeva's gold and WR in women's pole vault. An honourable mention should also go to Kirketerp and Warrer's dramatic gold medal in the 49er-class, sailing.

Vancouver 2010 - Simon Amman's double gold in men's ski jumping was a true Olympic moment for me.

London 2012 - David Rudisha's incredible WR in men's 800m and Usain Bolt's 200m WR, athletics. Special mentions go to MIchael Phelps becoming the most decorated Olympian of all time and Lasse Norman's Gold in omnium, track cycling.

Sochi 2014 - Tina Maze and Dominique Gisin's shared gold in women's downhill, alpine skiing. Also Kamil Stoch's double gold in ski jumping was a personal highlight.

Rio 2016 - So many favourite moments from these games! Pernille Blume's 50m freestyle gold in swimming, the Danish men's handball team winning gold, Sara Slott Petersen's winning silver in women's 400m hurdles, athletics, and lastly Jakob Fuglsang's silver medal in men's road race, cycling. My favourite of these are probably Sara Slott Petersen's silver as it's really rare for a Danish athlete to win a medal in athletics.

PyeongChang 2018 - Ester Ledecká's gold in women's super-g, alpine skiing, was incredible to witness.  Sven Kramer' wining his 3rd gold medal in a row in the 5000m distance, speed skating.

Tokyo 2020 - Hopefully seeing Armand Duplantis setting a new WR in men's pole vault, athletics. Following closely how Anna Emilie Moller will do in women's 3000m steeplechase, athletics. Hopefully a top 10 will be achieved.

When I list the events I want to watch, I really don’t think about US athletes. I typically watch events because I love to watch that sport rather than watching it because a US athlete is competing. I still cheer for the US, but I would rather watch a great competition than watch the US destroy every other team/athlete to win gold.

Yes, that Vince Carter dunk was something special. He had a great career than just came to an end this season . Sad to see him go, but it was time.
