Meanwhile, the Seine is still measuring sewers-like levels of poop bacteria.
Somewhat safe or not, of course the athletes are going to be sent into the water anyway, but for their sake I hope it does indeed improve in the next few months..

Ajax Amsterdam lost to Feyenoord Rotterdam 0-6 Probably the biggest defeat for Ajax in De Klassieker?
Yeah, it breaks the record of 1964, although that match was certainly more fun: 9-4
Ajax is in total shambles anyway, organizationally speaking. First the drama around German Sven Mislintat, who threw away dozens of millions with awful and super shady signings (through his own company), Marc Overmars who was kicked out because somehow he couldn't keep himself from sending unwanted dick pics, a new CEO who started in March and is now basically done already because it turned out he bought thousands of Ajax stocks right before he was appointed, the whole team being filled with unknowns (and Bergwijn) due to the never-ending dramas.
The headline on a satirical website last week says enough about the situation: Relegated to the third level, stadium exploded and Johan Cruijff turns out to have been a serial killer; calm Wednesday for Ajax
And that was before yesterday's 6-0 humiliation (which easily could have been 7-0 or 8-0)

I promised myself a few years back not to waste time on this shitshow and just find the few good songs after it's been held.
However, a friend of mine insisted there are good songs, that i would definitely like and should check the submissions. I was pleasantly surprised with the top songs of 2023, so thought why not. And indeed, there are 5-6, which i've started circling in the playlist.
But I'm already dreading getting familiar with the songs and having some kind of investment. In a perfect world the fight should be between Italy and Croatia, but knowing this is Eurovision they will probably have cringe stuff like Netherlands or Switzerland winning....
I genuinely wonder how the clown from the Netherlands is cringe, but the clowns from Croatia aren't
SpoilerWhich I don't mean in any way negative about Croatia's song, those two are absolutely dominating by Spotify plays over the past month or so and are consistently stuck in my head, much to my enjoyment (and for now, if I vote, it would definitely be for Croatia)

MVDP getting a free pass this spring without Pogacar and Van Aert. Everyone else just not on the same level. Haven't seen so few classic specialists in these big races like this year.
Pogacar and Van der Poel will meet in LBL, although that's of course much more a race for the former. In this shape I doubt Van Aert would have been of much resistance today by the way, but yeah, we will never know.

12km to go until the Wallers-Arenberg forest!

Organizer car almost took out Politt.

Tarling
Bike exchange and then was brought back to the peloton behind the team car, very clearly. Now he's taken out of the race, there you go. Another serious outsider gone.

Most known to their families? Like a former RVV-winner?
Tiller, Hagenes, Haller and of course indeed Asgreen...that was a lead group of rare strength for races like this.

Through the tripartite quota, but I would prefer if other people get it.
He's also eligible to get a taekwondo tripartite quota.
Out of curiousity, what would be the easiest sport for him to qualify in? Is there a summer equivalent (in terms of qualifying) of cross-country skiing before the changes to make it harder/more realistic? I'd guess athletics with the universal quota, but if only one athlete from is better in the 100m or something, that'd be tough
Of course world rankings in MTB are quite odd that way too I believe, or has that changed by now so athletes can't get high enough anymore solely based on 'easy' races?

The news of Sara Benfares' provisional suspension due to a positive drug test is concerning. While there's mention of medical treatment, it's crucial to await further details before drawing conclusions. Transparency and thorough investigation are paramount in cases like these.
Her sister testing positive for EPO as well doesn't exactly help her case though.

she just made some very stupid administrative errors. Hopefully she won't be banned for two years and she will only miss Paris.
This remains unbelievable to me. I mean, one strike can happen, people make honest mistakes. But if that happened, you're already supposed to really be on edge.....then it happens again....
If you know that a third time will result in a ban, which it should, how are you not spending every day making absolutely sure, ten times a day, that all your whereabouts information and everything else is entirely correct? Ask your coach, ask your federation, ask your NADO, ask everyone to make sure you do it correctly...
Like Rastorgujevs in biathlon: he got a strike because he wrote down his address as "Stelvio, Bormio", which was obviously not enough to locate him (as WADA/IBU/whoever told him). He then got another strike unrelated to that, and later a third strike......because he wrote "Stelvio, Bormio" as his address again. Come on.
There might have been something else going on in her case, like not having anyone at all available to ask something to (teammates, coaches, federations and so on, maybe the relationships between them are bad, who knows), but ban or not, at least I hope she will learn to deal with the system...

Murtazaliev is a last minute change for Russia and oh boy this kid made me wow in European Champ. the top half is really hard but if he wrestlers as good as that tournament, that's his quota to lose. he also has a not-so-hard path to the SF (only has to beat a mediocre AZE wrestler) but the first quarter is insane with Savolainen, Kakhelasvili, Szoke and Kobliashvili, whoever survives this brutal quarter will be a bit tired too, makes things easier for Murtazaliev
no favorite here, everybody in bottom half can consider himself lucky. I'm very surprised with Turkey's entry, this guy was terrible so far, not sure why they are sending him! Venckaitis and Kajaia are favorite "on paper" but they are simply not good enough. Venckaitis had a dream run at Worlds but lost 3 matches and finished 6th and Kajaia is too old. even the Netherlands has a chance for quota here, or maybe Austria. it's really hard for me to pick one but I try something new this time , I say
Where can I sign for this?
Cool to see there is actually some hope (I mean, probably he won't get it, but if you say the chance is there, I'll have hope). Brother Marcel Sterkenburg in 87kg is already out in the first round, so it'll have to be him

Yeah. Hadn't seen who the UAE-rider was when writing.
Absolutely agree. They even spent time putting some semi-dramatic music on the crash.
I understand that it's hard to be a TV director in the situation. The race was neutralized for what, almost half an hour and of course something needs to be on the screen, but it was wrong. Give us boring pictures and not this.It seems like Vine was injured the worst, while the Tour dream should be alive for all 3 favourites in the crash.
And if you desperately need to show something, just keep it with the helicopter shot from high up without zooming in. That way we see the situation isn't cleared yet, but we can't see the details of what they're doing. But yeah, preferably just don't show it at all. Put an extra camera on the waiting peloton or something, that's pretty interesting often, hearing the riders talk and discuss the situation and so on.

And meanwhile a very bad crash in Itzulia Basque Country taking down several profiles including Vingegaard, Evenepoel and Roglic. Especially Vingegaard and a couple of other riders are looking very bad.
Also Jay Vine....again. Peloton went on that downhill like crazy (for no real reason at all), even after someone in the lead group had already missed that turn a few minutes earlier...
Basque/Spanish TV director should be fired immediately by the way, not only keeping the live pictures there forever, but even zooming in, showing all the replays, slow motion scenes of riders who may or may not be conscious.....those utter imbeciles from the Giro d'Italia TV during Wouter Weylandt's last moments alive all over again....
I mean, come on. They zoomed in as far as possible on Vingegaard, who we at least saw move a bit every now and then, and also on the UAE guy who was just motionless on his back (like Weylandt that time). We as audience don't need to see that, the riders' families don't need all that on TV. Fucking idiots.

For safety reasons, Paris - Roubaix organizers have decided to let a full peloton of riders fight massively for a super tight and sharp 'chicane' right before the famous Arenberg cobbled section. Can't go wrong!

2024 World Rowing Cup I - World Rowing
Makes a nice change for the first event in the season to have such a strong field.
sending 45 rowers with pretty much their entire A-squad going. Good to see Graeme Thomas back in the mix although would be good to see him in M1x as he's probably our best chance of getting the quota at the final qualification regatta.
"The highest placing boat from a country receives 8 points, the second highest 6 points" etc
What is that all about? Wouldn't one assume that in a given category, the winner of said category receives maximum points, no matter what nation they're from? Maybe she's explaining it wrong in the video, maybe (most likely) I'm misunderstanding it, but it sounds rather silly

Oh I would have no doubt the same cowardly thing as Haniyeh does is going on with the likes of Netanyahu and his cronies: the leaders staying high and dry, enjoying the luxury life. One can only hope the likes of Haniyeh and Netanyahu and all their corrupt and criminal cronies somehow 'fall of the balcony', as the Russian authorities would say.
