De_Gambassi got a reaction from konig in Summer Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028 Sports Programme
They are really pushing their luck... First, introducing a sport (or sports) that is (are) nowhere near deserving to be at the olympics for apparently local political reasons, then letting the athletes cap goes wild without concerns for future hosts and now asking for breaking the nation-states basis of participation.
God, I wish IOC tells them to fuck off with their silly ideas (not going to happen obv).

I’m honestly glad they are going this route. I have nothing against eSports. I just feel they would be totally out of place at the Summer Olympics. If they want to host a separate eSports version of the Games then what harm and I wish them the best of luck.

Not to mention rowing which will take place in a 1500m course, though I blame World Rowing for seemingly not caring enough to request an alternative location for the rowing.

participation question will definitely be the forefront of LA28 headlines if lacrosse is approved by the IOC Session.

That's local politics, which should not be IOC concerns. If IOC validates such a weak international sport, that would be a travesty of the olympic universal ideals.

Abe as Mario during the Rio ceremony was freaking cool though.
But, I don't see Asterix will feature, it just l'Equipe doing its thing like they did for the - match in 2018

It is very split. There's a big Dutch forum where it's split between people laughing their heads off at the absurd dominance they're showing (Vingegaard's Tour de France time trial was a real highlight, but Van Aert's climbing for example scores rather high as well) and some people who either just ignore it or try to rationalize it a bit. I believe there's also two other big specific cycling forums, but I don't really post there, so it's hard to say. From what I've read from other people, it's mostly just a "hurray, it's amazing!" atmosphere there though
Newspapers and 'critical journalists' and such are just cheering along.

We are not talking about the CWGs, these sports are built around the Olympics, you simply can't have any of them on a rotation basis. And really, Judo on rotation ?
The issue with martial arts is quite simple anyway, we have the wrong one Taekwondo should never have been an olympic sport to begin with. Without TWD, Karate would have entered the program at some point in the 90's and absolute no one would have asked for the introduction of TWD after.

There are two reasons golf being in the Olympics makes sense. The first is that (except in very limited cases *cough* Rio *cough*) there is a championship qualify golf course in every major city, so hosting an Olympic golf tournament is very cheap. Given that, golf does not need to provide much value to make sense.
But maybe the biggest reason: by having golf in the Olympics it ensures the PGA and LPGA will never schedule an important tournament at the same time as the summer games. Dito with tennis and the ATP/WTA. If you want to watch golf during the Olympics the biggest tournament is… the Olympics.
It’s completely fine if more Olympic fans don’t like golf. Golf isn’t in the Olympics for people like us.

They also reported Tokyo 2020 would be cancelled in early 2021. Their record on Olympics “exclusives” isn’t great. They might be right here (who knows), but I’ve been burned before by them.

Mouai.

Breaking has a lot going for it. It takes very few quotas (32). It can be held in almost any venue, including very public locations. It is different from other artistic sports on the program, given the battle element. It translates very well to television. It also, so far, manages to attract a crowd. It was one of the hottest tickets at The World Games and European Games.

Where are the quotas going to come for. We are going to have like 4 entries for some events

So basically a forever rotation between North America / Japan and former british colonies. That's a fantastic idea.

And also athletes in established olympic disciplines who are cut because of the quotas limitation (I'm strongly thinking about canoeing slalom here)
Honestly, there is little you can do with the current cap of 10,500 athletes and the olympic program as it is. You can tweek it a bit, but really, just a bit.

Anyone know why Japan withdrew all their boats except for their single scullers. I assume it is Asian games related but the likes of their W4- would have at least been competitive here

Seems very unlikely that European countries outside UK and Ireland would chose cricket over Baseball. Both are minority sports, but Baseball seems the more popular on the continent

I was always interested to see how other Slovaks do when learning french, because I know it from my own experience, it is damn hard for us ! It may not look so, but french is probably harder for us than Arab or Chinese lol, especially because of the french for us, a completely illogical composition of sentences and different tenses trust me it was first for me a real pain in the ass
So really pleasantly surprised to see a guy in 2 months doing quite well
