For Series A competitions (where there's no limit on the number of athletes that can participate) they can go on their own without approval from their federation, they only need to have a licence and pay for everything.

Only 3 medals for that "big army" ! I think the number of Iranians in this tournament was good enough to invade China we had something like 10-15 athletes in repechage but only Mehdizadeh managed to win a bronze (and maybe because he had to beat two other Iranians !) I don't think athletes can participate in such event without approval from their national federations. and my question is "how the hell our federation let these unknown athletes participate under Iran's flag" ? and looks like Karate is rich people sport here I mean nowadays considering current economical situation it's no easy to pay a trip to China on your own.
 
Poursheib and Mehdizadeh were already famous, but I didn't know this guy Yari at all and had to google him. but I think after all this tournament is not going to help our Olympic chance. Yari is not even in the national team program (yeah maybe they change that now) Mehdizadeh was terrible recently and now he is moving up a weight I don't think he stands a chance , Derafshipour is probably our best chance for Olympic quota here in this weight (he was there too but lost to Japan) and Poursheib is only the 2nd option behind Ganjzadeh. of course it's good to have someone else in the ranking in case something happens. 
 
our federations hopes for 6 quotas in Karate (which is VERY optimistic) to me 4 will be GREAT. but the most important thing is to qualify in all 3 men's kumite weights . they all can be gold medal chances in Tokyo. I believe we can't qualify more than 2 via Ranking (75kg and +75kg) the rest has to focus on the last qualifier.

With all these national athletic awards going on right now. I though I’d float the idea of doing a Totallympics one with categories like:
Best European Athlete of 2018 (Winter and Summer)
Best Asian Athlete of 2018 (Winter and Summer)
Best African Athlete of 2018 (Summer)
Best American Athlete of 2018 (Winter and Summer)
Best Oceania Athlete (Summer)
Best Youth Athlete of 2018
Best National Team of 2018 (Winter and Summer)
Best Professional Team of 2018 (Winter and Summer)

First, my apologies for very late results. I was overloaded with work recently (you could notice my absence during TISC final as well). But we are back on track and here are the results.
What to say, @Dunadan is a master of prediction contests, and with this win almost secured Year-End #1. Congratulation on the win at this rather unpredictable contest
Italians, Italians everywhere. After n-th medal for Dunadan, @CiroMennella99 wins his second in a month or two! Very close to Dunadan, but still, amazing effort. Congrats! 
With excellent result on final day, @titicow snatched new medal, bronze this time. Congrats! 
Unfortunately someone had to be #4, and it appears @juliosilva simply cannot miss it!  I hope you will be much more lucky during next two.
Curiously, none of the medal winners had perfect score, while @Dolby had two of them. Inconsistency was enough for 7th place.

Not about what Salvini said, but the article also mentions the dispute between the government and CONI, which is heating up: the CONI president (who is also a newly elected IOC member) was furious today https://www.ansa.it/english/news/sports/2018/11/15/malago-blasts-govts-coni-reform_50e37f2c-cead-4e09-ad48-839e22d741c5.html ... this conflict is quite dangerous for the bid.
 
 

I see the IAAF have backed off using the as yet unused new World Ranking system for their 2019 World Championships - https://www.iaaf.org/news/press-release/revised-qualification-system-for-iaaf-world-a.  This would mean they either use it for the very first time for Tokyo 2020, or more likely in my view they will return back to the qualifying times process they have been using for decades.  There are too many criticisms of the new system as it currently stands.

Since the discussion is currently on TV Shows, if anyone wants to watch something AWESOME but still different from the well known American shows, try the South Korean tv show The Genius.

It is my ALL TIME favorite show and nothing else even comes close (and I watch a LOT of TV). 
 
It is a show about people playing different and highly interesting cerebral/social games, which should translate very well for Totallympians with our shared love of sport and competition.
 
The only slight issue is that it's in Korean, means you need to follow the english subtitles. Every one who watches the genius has only 1 of 2 reactions - (1) It is AWESOME or (2) I cudn't handle the subtitles. But it's also the first show I ever watched with subtitles, so it's not that difficult and as long as u can handle them, u'll be in for a treat.

 - By achieving the entry standard within the qualification period.  - By winning the Area Championship in all individual events except the marathon, an athlete will be considered to have achieved the entry standard (subject to the approval of the Technical Delegate who will assess the standard of specific events).  - By Wild Card, as the reigning World Champion, winner of the 2019 IAAF Diamond League or leader of the IAAF Hammer Throw Challenge, Race Walk Challenge and Combined Events Challenge (at the end of the qualification period).
