Princepal Singh becomes first Indian to lift an NBA trophy

How did he lift the NBA trophy without even being on roster of any team? Last season he was on roster of NBA G-League, even where he played very very less minutes and his team didn't win any trophy. So, which trophy has Princepal Singh lifted?

  2. I don't think Iran is a major player in Afghanistan any more. It must have backed some leaders in the 90s but right now it is reduced to a safe haven for some disgraced leaders, both Taliban and anti-Taliban, first group discreetly, second group openly and a place for Afghani refugees. Also, much before Mike Pompeo, there was Secretary of State Clinton, who started peace talks with the "moderate faction" of the Taliban.

Yes, I don't see how Shia Muslims could support Sunni Muslims here at all. That's one split of Islam the so-called Western democracies have never understood and probably never will.

Azerbaijan, Shia majority nation has better relations with Sunni Turkey as compared to Shia Iran.

@hckošiceHad the same problem until yesterday. Have you tried to remove the cache/cookies from your browser? Anyway, it should be something related to your browers which still connect on the old server in same pages. Can you try with another browser to see if you still face the same problem?

Thanks. Yes, I face the problem only when I am using desktop version. On mobile, I am not facing any such problems. Lets hope that clearing cache solves the problem.

  5. Honestly, all of us knew this was going to be the case. USA couldn't stay in Afghanistan indefinitely and the moment USA left, Taliban was bound to return. Even when USA was there, Taliban had substantial control over some areas. Also, legitimisation of Taliban has been going on for quite some time (atleast until Hillary's term as Sec of State). So, fully expect that first some senior Afghani politicians would accept Taliban as the legitimate government of Afghanistan followed by USA/China. Others don't matter. In return, Taliban may go easy on public executions of top Afghan leadership and may give some concessions to the public, like no "official ban" on girls going to school.

Canada's moron of a pm has called an election on September 20, years head of schedule.

Interesting. Doesn't seem to be a sensible decision. All over the world, leaders are facing varying voter wrath due to the pandemic. Is he sensing that he can increase his seats due to lack of preparation of opposition?

The question is, what will happen now? Especially for example for women and their chances for normal lifes (meaning, education, somewhat free choices, not needing some male relative simply to walk the street, and so on)? It's hard to imagine the current situation will mean the lives of regular Afghan people will magically improve with extremists like Taliban in force.

We all know what will happen next.

People think Saigon 1975 is betrayal and abandonment. But it's just from western perspective full of arrogance. For Vietnam it's the ending of war, ending of chaos. It means they don't have to pick a side to fight and die meaninglessly. They can start to focus on survival, food, education and economy instead of death for democracy, freedom, liberalism or communism. Vietnam is much better than most westerners anticipated and Saigon is a very prosperous city nowadays thanks to ending of the war. So US is not god who should be responsible for Vietnamese or Afghan's future. It isn't supposed to be there at the very beginning and have no right to help locals to choose a "democratic" government. It's better late than never of US withdrawal.

I don’t see either as betrayal or abandonment but both the images do show that the greatest superpower has lost the war.

yes that's what common people say in Afghanistan, twitter is full of #sanctionpakistan but I think it's more complicated than that. yes it seems some elements of Pakistan army are supporting the Taliban but it's not like Imran Khan himself is doing that.

    1) Imran Khan has no control over the army. Everybody knows that Pakistani Army and ISI has the real power in Pakistan.

    2) Imran Khan used to be called Taliban Khan during Musharraf times due to his close contacts with Taliban.

I had wondered how Sachin Tendulkar, Anil Kumble, VVS Laxman and Harbhajan Singh got into that side in 1998!  ?

Agreed they need to show intent and on the surface it sounds like they are finally singing from the same hymn sheet but we shall see. Certainly it would benefit the wider game but the most powerful nations are not known for their lack of selfishness.

Bhajji and Laxman were yet not the stars they became after THE 2001 Series. So, basically they sent top 2 stars, Sachin Kumble to please the public but sent half of main team for the all important Friendship Cup in Toronto.

England's opposition was due to the Olympics falling in the middle of the English cricket season with the disruption this would cause. I'm not sure what India's objections were.

Coming under Indian Olympic Association, whereabouts clause of WADA and general disinterest. Let alone Olympics, we sent a B team to the CWG 1998 and didn’t even send a team at last Asian games.

As I have said in past as well, ICC (in reality BCCI, ECB and CA) need to show intent before any talk of Cricket in Olympics gains momentum. Let them add Cricket to CWG. Let the top players take part in CWG and Asian Games, then and only then they should talk about inclusion in Olympics.

Logistically speaking, with the use of drop-in pitches, a T20 tournament of 8 teams is feasible and not very costly. It brings new audiences and potential medallists from South Asia and Caribbean but there are other sports which are better integrated with Multi-Sports Games.

    My wish list:

    1) Hockey Men's medal

    2) Mirabai somehow winning Gold

    3) Elavenil winning medal (She is a fellow Amdavadi :p)

    4) Neeraj getting our first ever Athletics medal.

    5) Sindhu becoming our most decorated Olympian (except Hockey)

    6) Vinesh Phogat getting a Olympic medal for the phenomenal Phogat family

    7) Overall getting 2 Golds and 10 medals.

Hockey, Neeraj and Sindhu got their medals. Phogat family got their medal although vis Bajrang. Mirabai won Silver. 1 Gold and 7 medals. Not far from my wish list.

  13. Still can’t believe Neeraj won the gold. I had to sadly go to Airport at that time. Was watching the final while driving. Got more than one look at signals and am sure couple of others would have abused me as well for driving recklessly. Finally stopped on the side of the road for final round. Totally worth it. :hyper:

    yes, 8 seems reasonable.

For me, the magic number would have been 10.

We should have crossed 10. We've lost chances quite a few chances.

That is bound to happen. Not all chances would win medals. Prior to Olympics started, my path to 10 medals was

    Shooting: 2 (disaster)

Boxing: 2 (slightly less. 0 medal in Men's boxing was painful)

Wrestling: 2 (expected 2 medals out of Ravi, Vinesh and Bajrang. Possibly on track. Was hoping that some of our younger wrestler will pull a Sakshi and win an unexpected Bronze but alas)

Weightlifting: 1 (Was a lock, delivered)

Others: 3 (Got 2. Chance for more) There were no clear favourites in others. There were a lot of contenders/dark horses only.

So can we clear the magical number of 6. Still medal winnable athletes remaining - Bajrang Punia, Neeraj Chopra. Dark horse - Women's hockey team, Aditi Ashok, Seema Bisla,

I have high hopes from both Bajrang and Neeraj. Would be delighted if one of the dark horses does win a historic medal.

Imagine, how great this Olympics would have been if we would have won couple of Shooting medals as well.

  16. I think both Deepak and Ravi's matches will be close. Deepak's opponent Amine is a good wrestler. He is won multiple medals at European level. So, not an easy match by any stretch of imagination. Ravi's opponent Uguev is the best in the field. He is 2 time defending World Champion. He had defeated Ravi in semis in the last WC and Sanayev, Ravi's SF opponent in Finals in 2018 WC.
