Triplecast got a reaction from heywoodu in Athletics WA World Championships 2023
He was 3rd according to US TV announcers. (Announcer said the teenager from the Netherlands gets bronze.)

I don't think we are ever seeing a jump off in a major championship again (unless they change the rules).

Such a crazy depth on the 400m. It's quickly becoming my favorite distance. Would love to one day see a final with Paulino, Kaczmarek, Williams, McLaughlin, Miller-Uibo, Wilson and Bol.

1976 Olympic Games, same race, 3000 m SC. Frank Baumgartl stumbles over the last barrier and hits the deck, gets up to his feet and finishes third. (He was in second place at the time.)

Unless the sweeps every event it's a disaster. So unfortunetly it's already been a bad championships.

NBC really did a full-on inquisition with that interview though. I mean…making the guy re-watch the race on a monitor and narrate where it went wrong seems like a step too far to me. Athletes are still people as much as pundits/fans want them to be robots.
Bottom line, it isn’t how I conduct interviews.

European economy and everything else is already built for the country to function. Plus their politicians aren't stealing that much (in contrast of what Western media like to talk about Orban).
Now Bulgarian politicians are a different breed. With all the stolen money and corruption here in the last 12 years, that went for hotels in Northern Greece, we could probably build 5 such stadiums. Some countries just know their priorities.

Austria (with 3 world championships), Mexico, Panama, Italy, Canada, and Denmark, looking at recent WC results
IFAF Flag Football World Championship - Wikipedia
Its basically American football with no tackling or helmets - you stop the play by pulling a velcroed "flag" or strip off the offensive player who is in possession of the football at his/her beltline. At least that's how it was in my school days.

Or in the winter: ski jumping (and therefore Nordic combined) and the sliding sports. God I love them, but my lord are they expensive to have a massive venue for a super niche event 99% of the world knows absolutely nothing about

I think 8 teams is acceptable for host picks.

Triplecast got a reaction from mrv86 in Summer Olympic Games Paris 2024 Medal Predictions
43 Gold Medals seems way too optimistic to me, especially with what I’m seeing this week in swimming and water polo. I have not seen the event by event predictions, but when aquatics produces around 1/3 of your gold medals almost every recent Games, I see a big drop in golds next year.

RIP Jim Hines, 1946-2023, 1968 100m and 4x100m gold medalist.
Jim Hines, 1968 Olympic 100m champion and world record-holder, dies - AW (athleticsweekly.com)
According to this story, his two gold medals were stolen shortly after the 1968 Games but were returned to him after he placed an advert in a local newspaper. (I had never known that.) But his 100m race was like the second Olympic athletics event (the day after men's 10K) I ever watched on TV.

And as I learned today, because of the improvements that came after Bob Hayes finished his track career, Jim Hines was the only man to break 10 seconds and play in the NFL.
