Ireland is in the Pro League so will have matches against the top nations which should help with Olympic preparation. What an achievement for this team to make it to the Olympics, they’ve had to completely rebuild in recent years and it all came good at the right time

We are the only asian country to qualify in Men’s Hockey.
Really surprising stat.
Europe has 7/ 12 qualified teams. Taking 5/6 quotas from the last qualifiers in Oman & Spain. 
Safe to say, while Europe has excelled in field hockey Asia has gone backwards.

We did it! Wooowww!!! As always they didn't make it easy but this time they held on for the win!
 
I don't even care that we won bronze, our girls are going to the Olympics for the first time since 2008!
 
So many heartbreaking losses in quota games since then. 2012 against Spain when we were World Champions in 2011 and that's how FINA changed their qualification system. Then 2016 against Russia with a 9-7 lead with 2 minutes left and 10-9 lead with 4 seconds left and lost on penalties. Then 2021 when we led the Dutch at halftime and didn't score a single goal the rest of the game.
 
It will be nice to be relaxed during the World Championships and not having to stress about either one of our teams.
 
They did it for themselves and also for the past generations! Some of the best players in the world in the last 10-15 years like Avramidou, Kouvdou, Manolioudaki never got to go to the Olympics. And so many others.
 
So nice to see people like Diamantopoulou who was expected to make her Olympic debut in 2012 as a 16 yo, finally getting to go as a 28 yo! And Asimaki 16 years later in her "second career." Also girls like the Plevritou sisters, Eleftheriadou, Xenaki who shed many tears in past heartbreaks, most of them as teenagers at first, finally getting to go to the Olympics!
 
 
 
I am sorry for our Italian friends. This was so important for us though. I hope you guys qualify via Doha because you deserve it especially for beating USA last year!

Our best chance for a medal in a sport we didn’t win a medal in before is Rhys McClenaghan in artistic gymnastics. He’s one of the favourites in the men’s pommel.
 
Golf is also worth a bet as we have chances in both men’s and women’s events.
 
Small chances for a first medal in road cycling and taekwondo though I wouldn’t be putting my hopes on them either. 

That’s so sad, she was so young here too. I loved that performance as well, one of my favourite also.

I'm quite late, but I was sad to hear of the passing of Sara Tavares, Portugal's representative at Eurovision in 1994 (one of my favorite performances ever).
