If a sex shop was going to sponsor an Olympic sport, curling makes sense.

Jennifer Jones' team will represent Canada at the Olympics.

I'd argue selecting one of our NHL teams would make Canada weaker overall .
Though they would have the advantage of having team synergy vs. hoping everyone gels together by the fourth game...

Until the IOC can get its act together and bring back the missing 1000-1500 athletes (or start removing sports) it might be best for fencing to drop the team events. Honestly, events with less than 10 entrants should not be happening

I feel very confident Canada will finish in the top 4, they would have to lose 5/6 games for them to fail, the issue is top 3. We've got Mexico out of the way, but losing to Central American teams is sort of our jam. For example, Honduras has no chance at qualifying, but they can just as easily beat us and deny us three valuable points.

Wouldn't be the first time a sport federation doesn't know its own rules/changes them without telling anyone

While removing the riding portion may make the sport more accessible, adding cycling is a poor choice as it doesn't have much military roots plus as others have mentioned, it would bring the sport too close to triathlon. Something along the lines of archery or a hand-to-hand combat sport (wrestling?) would be more applicable.

Not a huge fan of this, they should have more core sports.
At the very least they need to have some kind of list of approved events or else we'll get random sports/events where only a handful of nations are decent at.

Do we have enough talent to justify a third sprint women? Will the sprint team be three people? I guess at that point the 14th quota probably doesn't have much of a chance at winning a medal (unless they can convince Michael Woods to compete in the road race) so it may go to whoever is having a good season.

Like what's the point in watching top level sports if you truly believe all the top contenders are cheaters?

I think the events are mostly set for 2024 (barring weightlifting getting completely kicked out), I'm thinking ahead as to how the IOC may make medaling events gender equal (because they will). Gymnastics poses an interesting conundrum where they'll have to work with wrestling to keep their respective disciplines in the games or either axe the artistic apparatus events or increase the women's event to six apparatuses by adding two of PH/Rings/PB/HB, neither of which are ideal.

In terms of being removed without being replaced
8 karate events
4 weightlifting events
2 baseball/softball events
New events which did not replace existing ones
2 breaking events
2 sport climbing events
This gives us a net event count of -10.
