Fans of eccentric and slow British sports will be delighted to know that today is the beginning of the World Indoor Bowls Championships 2021.  It’s basically curling on a carpet, not like the vulgar, noisy & hard-to-understand-the-scoring American 10-pin bowling.  
 
Can also be prescribed to new mothers having trouble getting new-borns to sleep.  
 
Sadly, because of COVID, this year it is a World Championships in the same sense that the Baseball World Series is a world series, but still at least four nations are represented, possibly even more if any players from the Channel Islands have qualified.

What was funny was that the English-language ES commentators had just been talking about how the Russian skiers always worked well as a team, unlike the Norwegians etc who were always competing against each other.

When I worked at the University, I noticed that International students would often speak English to each other when discussing particular subject.  So Indian students would be chatting in Hindi, but when they started talking about cricket, or business, or economics or whatever subject they were studying, they would switch to English. Presumably because the vocabulary of these subjects just did not exist in the native language.

Not getting any better - ski speed is there but 0 1 1 2 for 16th & 3:59 back after 4 shoots tells its own story.

The guys decided just to settle for an arm-wrestling & vodka drinking competition instead, then?

Well, here in  Lewis Hamilton won the official award, but I always think race drivers do only about 20% of the work. Tyson Fury was impressive, historically a British heavyweight has to be twice as good as his American opponent to win in Vegas.  Otherwise I’d go for Theo Geoghan Hart for his improvised win in the Giro, but not really the strongest field by the end.  Our best women overall did not get a chance to compete in their big events, so maybe Lizzie Deignan for some good World Tour wins, including La Course.
