You guys might want to download the app. There will be a “live trivia” game that will see the winner earn a free trip to the 2020 Summer Olympics.

You can also watch sports live and through replay on the app (not sure if they’ll show anything the Olympic Channel isn’t)

One of our female skimo athlete said this in an interview: “My terrible balance is only rivaled by my terrible sense of direction”, and now I’ve lost all confidence in the team .

Based off the background information published by our national federation, I don’t think any of our athletes will be challenging medals, but I’ll be very happy if they are. The athlete who said that quote is also one of my favorite athletes now

I’ve already posted our year end message on here, and I’ll probably post one on our website within the next few hours as well. Just wanted to give a quick thanks to everyone who’s been listening to the podcasts. The podcasts are only worth making if the community likes them, and continues to listen to them, and so far we’ve seen enough support to continue to give our time towards making them. So if you haven’t given our last few a listen, go ahead and make that a New Years resolution .

Now to the important business . Myself and @Vojthas have been discussing our editorial coverage plans for Lausanne2020, and we’d now like to share our final plans with you . We will offer the following coverage for Lausanne2020:

Daily Podcast - It will be receded by myself and @Vojthas at 23:00 local time daily. You can expect to be able to listen to it at around 00:00 local time each day. On the podcast (probably titled “Bonjour Lausanne!”), we’ll do a quick review of the days events, talk about our favorite moments, address any controversy, and cover anything else you guys want us too.

Event Review Articles - You can expert full review articles (as well as other content) on our website. They will be provided by the OIS, and we will edit them to add information we deem relevant or useful. We may also run some other articles to talk about the culture, people, and sport scene of Lausanne.

Updating Blog - Don’t have time to follow the games? On our updating blog, we’ll provide you with the most up-to-date information. You can expect links to results, livestreaming, breakdown of IOC Congress, and highlights of the best of social media from the games.

Unofficial Prediction Contest - @Vojthas and myself are in the process of finalizing the questions, and then the contest will be open to participation from all forum users . It should be published within the next week, so be on the lookout for that. @Vojthas is very pleased with his new “youth” and “urban” format

Social Media - Follow our social media for links to all our coverage, interactive polls/quizzes, and for help finding the information you want.

See you in 2020! The first Olympiad year of the 20s.

Here’s our first official episode of TWU (Totallympics Weekly Update): https://anchor.fm/twu/episodes/TWU-2-Ending-Out-The-Year-With-Our-Best-Episode-Yet-e9t9tj

@Vojthas and myself really enjoyed this one, so please give it a listen whenever you get the chance (on your way to work, in morning, before bed, when you’re bored, when there aren’t enough sports on, etc.)

Again, we’d love any feedback you could give us. Also, any suggestions for what we should cover next week. Plus, any ideas for segments or episodes (or of you’d like to come on for an episode and talk with us about something).

Lastly, @Vojthas, @Dragon, and I cannot thank you enough for supporting us this year. Admittedly, it’s been a rocky start. However, with your support we’ve been able to build up an awesome website, and a great audio service. I’d also give thanks to @OlympicIRL and @mrv86 for their early contributions to Totallympics Media (and your both welcome back anytime ). Some more thanks are in order to users like @heywoodu @dcro @ChandlerMne @ahjfcshfghb @intoronto @Wumo @zob79 @TomJa @bmo @ofan @Griff88 @JoshMartini007 (and anyone else who I just unfortunately forgot) who give us constant feedback, consist support, and our the main reason we’ve made it this far. Of course, the man himself, @Sindo was deserves a massive, massive thanks for helping us accomplish all of this; without his work, none of us would have meant, we would have never had our own website, and we’d never have had a place to belong. 2019, was a fantastic, maddening, awesome, thrilling, joyously crazy, and thrill ride of a year. For all of us at Totallympics Media: Thank You all for your support and passion. We hope you have a wonderful, blessed, and sport-filled 2020.

We are trying to make our podcasts much interesting, and with more personality. We’re also looking for more community engagement. If you have an idea for an episode or segment, let me know. If you’d like to come on and talk about something, or help with a fun segment, let me know as well.

Alright everyone, 2020 is just around the corner, and you know that means...Olympics!!!

@Vojthas, @Dragon, and myself a very excited to bring you more content than ever in 2020. You guys have kept us going with your continued support, and we are working all time on trying to bring you the best, newest, and most exciting content we can. As many of you know, I will be lucky enough to be in Tokyo at the 2020 Summer Olympics, and I have some very exciting announcements concerning our content goals for those games in the future. However, there is one “Olympics” to go before Tokyo, and that’s the 2020 Winter Youth Olympic Games in Lausanne. @Vojthas and I have already pledged full coverage of the event on our side. To help us, help you get the information and content you want, I’d like to know what you guys 1) want to know about the games 2) what to see from our coverage 3) what information do you most want 4) any other suggestions or comments you have. We want to use the 2020 YOG as a dry run for our Tokyo2020 coverage, so we will be all hands on deck, and fully operational for our first time since the 2019 Pan American Games. I hope y’all are looking forward to 2020 as much as we are, and we cannot wait to bring you more content.

P.S. Two things: 1) I’ve read all the responses to the trivia question, and we are working on the best format for those. Hopefully in the coming weeks we’ll be able to publish some quizzes on the website. 2) I will announce the full details of our 2020 YOG coverage in the near future. We will make sure you do not miss a moment of the games.

I would classify this year as good. I really enjoyed all the winter sport world championships. Crashed Ice had its best season ever. The 2019 Winter Universaide was a great way to start off a year of about 20 multi-sports games. GSSE was good, but not as great as San Marino 2017 in my opinion. The European Games were absolutely delightful once again. Really enjoyed working on the daily podcast for Minsk. It was a special time for sure. The Pacific Games were awesome. Two weeks of highly enjoyable sport, and very good livestreaming. African Beach Games were a success. The African Games were a failure. All of the summer sports world championships were enjoyable. The 2019 Pan American Games were enjoyable. It was my first games as a full journalist, and that was a terrific experience. World Beach Games were an outstanding success. I enjoyed tracking YOG qualification. I’ve been watching more and more sport as the year progressed. This year, I went from fan to journalist. Totallympics Media is probably one of my biggest achievements, and I’ve enjoyed covering a multitude of events for our website. I’m really looking forward to 2020. I’ll be attending my first Olympics in person, and I’ll be visiting Asia for the first time.

Well the NCAA makes a lot of money off using their names on merchandise. The argument is that these athletes are destroying themselves for an education and the least we could do is pay them too. I very conflicted by it, but I’m not a fan of the NCAA. If this law forces California schools to create a rival league, I’ll support it.

Olympics is #2 for me. I am also busy with school & playing baseball. I don’t post a lot anymore, but I still know what’s happening. 5,000 posts is A LOT!!! Congrats!!! Always be yourself & follow what your passionate about & don’t let anyone persuade you otherwise. You are wanted & loved!! Your contributions are huge not only in the forum, but in life as well!! Ladies and Gentleman, this is my 5,000 post. I didn’t want this occasion to go by without marking it, so get ready for this monster of a post.

First, I’d like to reflect about my time on Totallympics:

Growing up I was always an “outsider” or “misunderstood”. I didn’t have a lot of friends, and I didn’t share may of the interests other people my age had. I loved to talk politics, international sports, and life. I wasn’t really surrounded by people with those interests. There was a time, in middle school, where I seriously began to at least contemplate suicide. Luckily around the time I finished middle school and began high school, I found people who believed in me, and who liked me for me. However, even with my increased social participation, there was always something missing. No one I know wants to talk much about the Olympics, or the Commonwealth Games, or the Pan Am Games, or really about anything I was interested in. That all changed one spring day in early 2018 when I was browsing the internet looking for information about the Tokyo 2020 qualification process. I came across a website called Totallympics. I read what I believed to be the comments section at the time (mostly because I didn’t know much about forums), and saw a user complaining about how hard it would be for a Brazilian biathlete to qualify for the Olympics. I was immediately hooked from then on. It took me a while to understand this crazy new community that I was now a part. However, there isn’t a day that goes by where I’m not happy to be a Totallympics member. This forum completed me. It’s honestly helped me become a better person too through learning to interact with people who have vast differences in background. So, I’d like to thank all of you for being such great users, and for always (or at least most of the time) making me feel welcomed, and for giving me a place where I feel like I can be me.

Second I’d like to share some memories with users:
I’ll always remember being @heywoodu‘s new favorite user when I joined. I feel like that didn’t last long
I used to hate @bestmen‘s complaints, comments, accusations, etc., but now I’ve grown to love them like a child loves a drunk uncle. They might be crazy, but it would feel the same if bestmen wasn’t around.
Peter Sagan made my day as a little kid one time, so it’s always nice to have a fellow diehard supporter on the forum @hckosice. Plus, you’re one of the few users who just always seems to able to say the right thing to make everyone happy.
You guys wouldn’t be my “online family” if we didn’t argue. I can always trust @heywoodu, @dcro, and @Monzanator to challenge my opinions and call me out when needed. I may often say things critical of you, but I still treasure your presence on this forum (even if you are wrong when I’m right )
I’d also like to give shoutouts to my fellow Americans who generally seem to understand where I come from, and always give me a nice sense of “home” @dezbee2008, @bmo, @Rdbc, @Maxim Fastovsky, @RobtheAggie
I can also almost always count on @zob79 to throw out a dirty joke. He’s more of the dirty grandpa of the family.
I never knew a lot of openly gay people growing up. Luckily I was taught tolerance from a young age. It blew my mind to see someone like @thiago_simoes be so open about it. The insights and opinions you’ve shared with me have been invaluable.
I obviously like to give huge shoutouts to @Sindo, @vinipereira, and @hckosice for keeping this wonderful place running and for at least attempting to keep us all in line.
Of course I’d also like to give a huge shoutout as well too my fellow Totallympics Media reporters @Vojthas and @mrv86.
Lastly I’d like to give a wholehearted thanks to @Sindo, @Vojthas, @mrv86, @OlympicIRL, and @heywoodu for supporting me on my journey as a sports journalist.

    I’m sorry I couldn’t thank all the users who’ve made my time on here special, so here’s a special mention for you too @phelps, @ahjfcshfghb, @Federer91, @vlad, @Griff88, @MHSN, @Ustatsch, @Dolby, @Jan Linha, @ChandlerMne, @uk12points, @Grassmarket, @Gianlu33, @Wanderer, @wumo26, @Agger, @dareza, @intoronto, @NearPup, @JoshMartini007, @Laraja, @Belle, @Finnator123, @Function CR Lee, @Benolympique, @ofan, @AIFhg, @thepharoah, @amen09, @LDOG, @Jinzha, @opruh, and anyone else I’ve had the pleasure of interacting with that I can’t remember at the moment (sorry).

Third, I’d like to talk about being a sports journalist:

I feel in love with journalism during high school, and have has admired the likes of Inside The Games and Around The Rings. I made a name for myself around here as a replay archiver, but I always wanted to do more. I was lucky enough to meet @Vojthas who shared my passion for journalism and sport. He has taught me so much and is even currently at an event reporting for Totallympics Media (our first ever accreditation I might add). We were lucky enough to add @mrv86 to the team as well. This summer alone we made a podcast, and a fully functioning website for our organization. The later was only made possible @Sindo who I owe a huge thanks. I’d also like to thank all of you for your support, and ask that you continue to check in on Totallympics Media.

Fourth, I’d like to celebrate my 5,000 post by looking at some of my personal highlights.
I have a community reputation of: 1,355 (and I never thought I’d ever reach, let alone pass 1,000)
    In reactions I’ve received:
    358 Luaghs
    163 Trophies
    70 Cries
    53 Wows
    16 Loves
    “Facts”:
    I’ve “won” 27 days.
I have 129 pages worth of reactions and comments.
    I have 148 attachments.
I am (or will be) a Totallympics Gold Medalist and 2 time reputation Gold Medalist.
    Trivia:
My user icon has been a flower for at least year.
I am a Senior Reporter at Totallympics Media.
I am from the United States.
    My real name is Matt.
The first sport I played was Baseball.
I competed as a distance runner for 9 years.
I’ve worked as a volunteer at major international sports events like the 2017 Weightlifting World Championships.
I currently practice the sports of Roller Speed Skating and Sport Climbing.
I have been to Canada, The Bahamas, Dominican Republic, Turks and Caicos, and Mexico (and soon to be Japan and Austria).

    Lastly, I’d like to say:

Cheers to 5,000 posts and here’s to 5,000 more .

    Thank You All!

@bmo I’m assuming you’d have no problems nominating Baseball as our national sport?

Actually, choosing one for the US is quite hard since we invented Baseball (in its current form), Basketball, and American Football (and probably some much lesser known ones). I’d still place my vote for Baseball because it was the first sport to integrate racially, the first to have an ultra popular professional league, and it’s connection to the 4th of July and American national identity.

As for California, I already said our official (by law/decree) state sport is surfing. It makes sense seeing as we have some of the most famous surf spots in the world, and probably the most surfers per capita. I’d personally argue that Cycling, Triathlon, Athletics, or Pickleball be made the official state sport. Beach Volleyball, Volleyball, and Skateboarding would be in contention too. If we were to have an official winter state sport it would most certainly have to be Freestyle Skiing.

10/10 recommend Track Cycling. We have a velodrome at Cal State Dominguez (also known to football fans as the Stub Hub Center). I was lucky enough to attend a day when the World Cup came here 2 years ago. It was awesome. Obviously being in LA area it’s perks (especially now the Olympics are coming). I haven’t seen Ice Hockey or Figure Skating either. I’ve seen Cycling - Road and Track, Athletics - Diamond League, Modern Pentathlon, Special Olympics World Games - Roller Sports, Kayak, Sailing, Handball, Weightlifting - 2017 World Championships, Fencing - World Cup, and Football - Both US teams (friendlies)
