Basically that means the long gap between medals was all Queen Elizabeth's fault. Queen from 1952 to 2022...

So much looking forward to race!!!
And... It seems like finding someone to prepare my skis won't be a problem as this time FIS will provide a "neutral support" for small teams with specialized staff preparing our skis 😱😍 *(just heard it from Jaque)
Vamos!!! 🚀🚀

Our very own @brunamoura has arrived in Slovenia today, where she'll make her comeback after surviving the car crash on the way to the Olympics a year ago. Bit of a tense morning, because she had to go by a transfer arranged through GetTransfer, again, just like she was more or less forced to do last year due to the circumstances (this time the Brazilian van was full with the rest of the Brazilian athletes and a few non-Brazilians, so there was no space anymore). The reason for that being a tense thing of course being how it went so very wrong last year, so stepping into a hired taxi van was understandably a bit of a....tense moment.
Luckily this time, as logic would of course expect, nothing happened and she arrived safely in Slovenia, all good!
Next up: try to find someone to wax the ski's these days, light trainings to keep the shape and get the energy level to competition level and then on Wednesday, it's the big moment...the 5k freestyle! Vamos

Today the World Cup Final started. Here are the final World Cup standings for this season for the following distances:

the Netherlands (156 points) Canada (144 points) Norway (140 points) Poland (137 points) China (136 points) First ever world cup overall on the long distances for a Norwegian woman!
Min-Sun Kim almost had the perfect record winning the first 5 world cups over 500m, but finishing 2nd today behind Herzog. Still an incredible season for her so far.
Tomorrow the final races in the women's 1.500m, the men's 500m, the men's 5.000m (as part of the long distances World Cup over 5k/10k) and the women's team sprint.
On Sunday, the 1.000m for men and women will be contested as well as the mass starts for both genders.

On the final day of the Junior World Championships in Inzell, there were only the team events and the mass start left.
Here are the results:
Event Team Sprint Girls Team Sprint Boys Team Pursuit Girls Team Pursuit Boys Mass Start Girls Mass Start Boys Gold Angel Daleman Lukáš Steklý Silver Chloé Hoogendoorn Daniel Hall Bronze Yuna Jeong Jordan Stolz The Dutch girls won the team pursuit with a 8.7 second lead over the USA, in a time that was faster than the US team that won bronze in the senior World Cup this weekend (although Inzell is a way faster track).
Daleman was part of the team sprint and team pursuit team, securing 3 gold medals in one day and 5 World titles overall this tournament, with one silver and bronze medal added to the mix as well.
Surprising win for Steklý in the mass start. I think he's the first Czech boy to win a world title. He managed to escape with Hall during the race and was slightly faster than the Canadian in the sprint, after he also outsprinted the rest in the semis as well. Stolz (USA), Sasaki (JPN) and Norberg (SWE) fought for bronze. Two Swedish skaters finished in the top 10, as Sebastian Forsmark also finished in the top 10 by taking points in the intermediate sprints. Last week, Kasper Norberg also secured the win in the final Junior World Cup standings on the mass start.
China just missed out on a medal on multiple occasions, despite ranking high in the Junior World Cups this season. However, skaters from 10 different countries won at least one medal on this final day in a tournament where literally all the top juniors were present, so that's a good result.

Today's results of the Junior World Championships in Inzell:
The 1.000m had clear winners: 15 year old Angel Daleman taking her second title by winning the girls' 1.000m (1:16,29) in front of Alina Dauranova (+1.47) and Greta Myers (+1.53), while Jordan Stolz went 3/3 with his third gold medal of the Championships in 1:08.28 in front of Tim Prins (+1.57) and Issa Gunji (+2.02).
The longest distance on the girls' side (3.000m) was comfortably won by Momoka Horikawa (4:04.72) in front of Jade Groenewoud (+6.97) and Angel Daleman (+7.03) who won her 4th medal of the tournament. On the men's side, Sigurd Henriksen prolongated his title on the 5.000m (6:15.30), a landslide in front of Remco Stam (+10.80) and Jordan Stolz (+12.38) also winning his 4th medal (3x gold, 1x bronze).
To no one's surprise Jordan Stolz (1-1-1-3) won the allround title with a 4.308 point gap to the runner-up, which must be the biggest gap ever. Hojun Yang won silver (9-3-4-9) and Tim Prins won bronze (3-7-2-25). On the women's side, the gap was smaller, but Angel Daleman won the gold (2-1-1-3), 2.266 points in front of Greta Myers (5-3-3-6) and Jade Groenewoud (17-2-6-2).
Shout out to Jeannine Rosner who finished 5th on the 1.500m and 3.000m as a 15-year old. Looks like Herzog might have a compatriot who has the talent to follow in her footsteps.
Curious to see what Angel Daleman will do as she will be a junior for the next three seasons and is also a world-class junior in short track speed skating.

Ireen Wüst
SPEED SKATING
Regarded as the most successful speed skater ever, Ireen Wüst first achieved a spot in the Dutch Olympic team in 2006. In Turin, she became the youngest Dutch gold medalist at the Winter Games, starting a sequence of results that would made history. Winning at least one gold medal in each of her Winter Olympic appearances, she is the only athlete to win an individual gold medal in five consecutive Olympics, Summer or Winter. Not only she is the most successful athlete from the Netherlands at the Olympics, in Beijing she also became the oldest Speed Skating gold medalist in the history of the Winter Games. "Words can't describe her class", said fellow competitor Brittany Bowe after the 1500m event at the 2022 Olympics; "she is the greatest of all-time, as her performance shows". Indeed, Wüst's career more than earned her a place in our Hall of Fame.
