I wonder if anyone is able to compete equally in diving with China? Maybe they should try to change the rules to make the competition more equal? Competing only for 3rd place in individual starts is a bit boring, and there are a lot of such competitions there. Table tennis is not that big of a problem, because there are only 5 events, I think.
We could limit the maximum number of athletes per nation (for example, 6 as in weightlifting).

I am neutral here but USA needs to change something.
Only time, AFAIK, when China topped the medal table was in 2008.
In Rio USA had 40 + golds, China less than 30.
In Tokyo China was down by 1.
Now, USA will 99% lose this battle.
System in USA is obviously fragile in all sports.
I don't think the US system is fragile. It's more that the United States is facing increased competition in their traditional sports (Australia in swimming, Canada in athletics, etc.). Meanwhile, China continues to dominate in its preferred sports (diving, table tennis, etc.).

Almost certain that the USA will finish first now.
France will probably not reach 20 gold medals. -
So, there is still one last race for Australia to finish first in the rankings.
-
4 events left in swimming tomorrow:
- Women's 50 metre freestyle (favorite Sarah Sjöström)
- Women's 4 × 100 metre medley relay (favorite Australia)
- Men's 4 × 100 metre medley relay (favorite France)
- Men's 1500 metre freestyle (favorite Daniel Wiffen)
As Australia is still leading the rankings with 7 gold medals, it can be assumed that for the first time since 1956, Australia will finish at the top of the swimming rankings (and for the first time on foreign soil). Well done !

USA is the obvious choice. Australia has 1 very strong chance left (Kaylee 200 back), 1 solid chance (McEvoy 50 free), 1 toss up (Kaylee 200IM) and a few outside chances (Mixed medley, Titmus 800, Temple??).
USA has probably 8 solid chances left with 3 of them being heavy favourites.
So while Australia is possible it will basically take a miracle. We need to convert every single chance and hope USA gets upset in a heavy favourite
The United States needs 3 more gold medals to catch up with Australia and take the lead, and there are 10 events left. In these 10 events at the last Games, the USA won 4 and Australia won 2. So, it's still possible for the USA to finish first, but it's going to be very tough.

What happened ?

With 3 days left in swimming, who will finish first in terms of gold medals, the USA or Australia ?

8 gold medals (+5 compared to the same period at the 2020 Games)
This would imply the following total at the end of the 2024 Games:
USA - 34 gold medals
China - 34 gold medals
France - 15 gold medals
The United States made a remarkable comeback today with 4 gold medals, moving up from 7th to 2nd place.
