We're close to 23000 cases .Lockdown may go till September some channels say. Nonetheless the cases in certain parts are growing continuosly. Gujarat, Maharashtra especially Mumbai, Delhi, Andhra Pradesh , Madhya Pradesh, Telangana and now West Bengal are hotspots.
The state I live had no more than 18 cases a day for 1 month (70 million population) Then suddenly 38 ,34,37,44 cases . Testing increased. Today 18 cases last 2 days 12 ,9 respectively.
To the district where I live 1.3 million population just 3 cases who were positive recovered No new case from last 25 days. It was Day 1 of life post lockdown. I didn't seem too interested going out but yeah some of my friends went out, construction activities have started . Malls, schools, colleges and public transport is closed.

Belgians are mad at some Italian newspaper, because they described the absolutely huge Belgian health minister Maggie de Block as someone who is 140kg "Belgium changes how they'll count dead, decides Maggie: minister of 140kg"
Belgians shouldn't be so sensitive about that, since half the Belgian internet is full with De Block memes often focusing on her saying of "Stay in your house" combined with 'or else I'll eat you'

Meanwhile in the Netherlands:
- Most precautions have been extended until 20 May, I guess we'll have another of these press conferences the week before that
- All events that need a license will not happen until at least 1 September, which includes big international music festivals like Pinkpop, the world famous 'Four Day March' in Nijmegen (largest walking event in the world) and - as the prime minister stressed specifically - no professional football, so that discussion ended right then and there
- Elementary schools will reopen on 11 May, the day after the end of a holiday, but partially: for example one day half the kids go, the other day the other half goes. Some more exceptions for all kinds of special education.
- Children up to 12 years old will be allowed to start training in their sports again (all sports), same goes for children up to 18 years old but only for sports where they can keep 1,5 meters distance; for both categories, no official matches
And besides that, the prime minister again stressed that people have always been and will remain to be allowed to do individual sports like running, because it's good for your health.

Usually I support the strict measures to contain the spread the virus, but I still think my local government Chayang, Beijing is over-reacted. The thing is that one oversea student back to Beijing found positive at home after 14-day mandatory quarantine who tested negative twice during that. So sadly his 3 family members are also infected. No others infected yet because he found positive just after 2 days coming back home, not too much time and space to infect others.
These occasional cases in my opinion is quite normal, it will happen every now and then unless this pandemic is fully over. But the Beijing government is going crazy and list Chaoyang district as the ONLY high risk district in China, apparently many other more dangerous districts still with local transmission are listed moderate. The consequence for me is that I can not leave Beijing, otherwise I may be rejected live in hotel or facing a mandatory quarantine as I am from high risk district.
I think the main reason for over-reaction is that some important political conference will be held next week in Beijing. As the capital security and stability are prioritized than economic activities and convenience. It's troublesome for me and really hate it.

Well. Preparations are underway for potentially testing everybody with symptoms in Denmark. It will be easy for me as the local testing facilities are just a 15 minutes walk away

Not sure how you can say all those things about Malaysia and especially Iran? I think all those things would be far more accurate when talking about countries like Norway, Iceland, Taiwan, Singapore or New Zealand (maybe also Israel). Of course it is much easier to deal with this virus if you are living on an island. For countries like Sweden, Denmark, Norway, New Zealand or Australia it was much easier to contain it then for some countries in the middle of Europe. When we take this into consideration, the english failure becomes even more impressive. I would also like to point out that Greece apparently has done a great job. I don't know how they did it, but somehow they handled this very well. I was sure that Greece would suffer at least as much as Italy, but their response (apparently) was absolutely brilliant. I never thought that Greece would become a role model for countries like Spain, Italy, France, England or even Belgium, considering that they were in a much worse situation to begin with.

Yes, probably not much different than in other countries. I'll just repeat: in the Netherlands recoveries aren't really reported (of course people recover, it's just not reported as 'official' statistic).

Just for clarification about the recovery rates: the Netherlands don't keep track of that, so no wonder we don't appear in those lists

I would really only call no. 5 completely true when it comes to Denmark! We were very quick (and apparently good) at shutting down and thereby stopping the spread, keeping it away from the elder.
The preparation was mainly done while the number of cases was very low. It seemed like a lot could have been ready beforehand. Don't get me wrong. I'm sure plenty of countries are less capable of handling a pandemic than Denmark, but in the beginning it did not feel prepared.
Almost 70 % of the positive tests in Denmark are people below 60 (one of the main groups tested are people in health care and eldercare and people needing these). Less than 10 % are 80 or above where the death rate is quite a bit higher than the rest. That's the key to the death/recovery rates. And sure that can tell a lot about different strategies, but..
We can do a lot to prevent it, but we cannot completely take luck out of calculation when it comes to recovery rate. That's one of the main reason for the death rates in Sweden, where they haven't done as good a job keeping the them safe (just below 25 % of positive cases in Sweden are 80+). They have slightly lower death rates in 90+ and slightly higher in 80-89 and 70-79.
I have no doubt that more testing makes opening up easier

So it is really high time to stop drinking alcoholic drinks during this time of pandemic.
So it is high time for us to stop drinking now for the sake of our health.

Yep. Ventilators are actually not too much of a problem here, since they managed to scale up the ICU capacity (which of course includes ventilators), it's not nearly full anymore. Which is good, so far it hasn't really gotten out of control in hospitals, hopefully the current precautions stay in place for a while longer and people keep listening to them as relatively well as they're doing.
Face masks, which are needed for people working in healthcare and so on, are a bit of an issue. For example at some of the nursing homes around my town, I've heard people have resigned from working there simply because they couldn't work in a somewhat safe manner due to a lack of PPE and masks.

So what are you saying?
a) The scientists were just doing research on the virus and it accidentally transferred to humans or
b) They genetically engineered the virus and it then transferred to humans (due to inadequate personal protection?
I am surprised that apparently China only has one BSL-4, while ...
- Brazil, Belarus, Switzerland, Sweden, South Africa and even Gabon also have one each
- India and Australia both have 2
- GB has at least 3
- Germany has at least 4
- The US has 14 that are planned/currently active
I am also not sure how „clever“ it is to have a laboratory like that in a big city, but apparently it is the same in other countries. Germany for example has one BSL-4 in Hamburg and one in Berlin, the US has one in San Antonio, one in Boston and one in Atlanta, Brazil has one in São Paulo, France has one in Lyon, GB has one in London, Italy has one in Rome, Belarus has one in Minsk, Russia has one in Moscow, India has one in Hyderabad, Australia has one in Melbourne and Japan has one in Tokyo.
