There will be no replacements. If your opponent withdrew, it's a walkover. I already know that  Jan Ø Jørgensen is through to the second round because  Brice Leverdez has withdrawn.

Team China had an awful performance in the recently concluded Japan open. I fear for their medal chances in next year's olympics.

One thing that would help is a link to the article and something like a date  I mean, several articles you post are literally years old (one today was more than 7 years old), it would be nice to know which ones are 'news' and which ones are just old stuff

In China competition is always very stiff and very tough. If the players want to be part of the national team, they must be able to win medals in AJC and WJC. In China only players who are part of the national team can go out for international tournaments. That means if the player is not selected to be part of the national team they cannot play in tournaments. So we have more than 1 billions of badminton players in China. But we all know not all those 1 billions can get selected to be part of the national team. Hence all the players had to cheat to survive. In fact in China all the players cheat their age. They have no choice. So it goes like a player is 23 years old but he or she makes him or her age 5 years younger so that he or she can be eligible to play in AJC and WJC and win medals. Well it is difficult for 18 or 17 year old kids to win medals. It looks easier when adults play in junior high school tournaments and they can win. That is why out of no choice all those China players are forced to cheat their age so they can survive. Well if the player did not cheat his or her age and the rest of the other players do it then he or she will be the odd one out.

So the example is this. My friends all cheat their age. They are 23 years old but make themselves look 5 years younger. So they declare themselves as 18 years old and get to play in WJC and AJC plus win gold medals. Whereas I am so honest here and refused to cheat my age. So I am 18 years old but play in AJC and WJC but win no medals. So in the end my friends who cheated their age to win medals in WJC and AJC all got selected to be part of the national team. Whereas poor me the honest person that refused to cheat the age won no medals in AJC and WJC thus I cannot get selected to join the national team and cannot play in international tournaments.

So you see I am giving the above illustration as an example. The honest person lose out. So in the end under such a cruel system every athletes cheated their age in order to survive. Such a sad situation indeed.

He has been attacking Badminton Association of India after they only sent two names in MS for Asian championship. He was angry that they didn't send 4 entries which was allowed (according to him) & he had to miss out of the championship. He is also upset about the fact that he is not given the preference ahead of Sameer.
To the Sudirman cup, Indian shuttlers were not fully prepared. Sindhu just got back to Li Ning, her performance has dropped maybe due to adjustment period. Saina is returning from injury.
Srikanth could not play because of injury. Prannoy is angry he was not selected instead of Srikanth or ahead of Sameer.
To his argument of wanting to win Sudirman cup and other such tournament, it is not seen as a possibility. India doesn't have a doubles pair in any category in top10.
In CWG India has the potential to be medallists & the public eye is concentrated on these events. Winning in this championship brings more popularity and even monetary rewards from governments and more sponsorship. Sudirman cup does not give you the same coverage as Cwg or Asian games in India.

Yeah to an extent it is true.
Players are more focused on their individual tournaments more than World class team tournaments. We should also remember this is olympic qualification cycle. so they might not want to push themselves to the limit if they don't believe they are capable of winning a medal.
The focus is mainly on singles throughout the year & it is tough to change the stance to team events.
I don't about playing for the country thing.

Well I am suspecting there will be lots of matches fixed up tomorrow again since it is going to be an all MS, WD and XD finals for China. Well China has been so famous for their match fixing when playing against their own team mates. Sad till today BWF just let if be and nothing is done.

How do you want to catch someone from match-fixing? Installing spy cameras in every venue, every badminton association building, every team hotels, also in every players' and coaches' pockets?
Even if you know the match is fixed, as long as there is no proof like "X instructs Y to lose to Z" you can't just ban them. (sad but true)
    It's not that easy....

At least referee nowadays dare to confront fishy matches and threaten them with black card, just like Li/Liu vs He/Tan in Fuzhou last year.

Denmark makes racket over 'match-fixing' Chinese badminton players

China's Junhui Li, left, and Yuchen Liu, seen here during a different match, lost in the controversial quarter-final in Fuzhou. AP Photo/Aaron Favila/Ritzau Scanpix The national association for badminton in Denmark says the sport's world federation should punish Chinese players for a match at last week's Fuzhou China Open which has been described as a “farce”.   Bo Jensen, director of Badminton Denmark, wants the Badminton World Federation (BWF) to take action after seeing footage of a quarter final match in which He Jiting and Ta Qiang defeated Li Junhui and Liu Yuchen in three sets.
“I am giving my support to the criticism. This is cheating, it's match-fixing and we can't accept it,” Jensen said to TV2 Sport.
“In our context, this is just as bad as doping, and it must be punished because if it is not, we will damage the sport's reputation amongst fans and the many sponsors that are making huge investments at the moment,” he added.
Several Danish badminton players are reported to have been present during the match. Doubles pair Mads Pieler Kolding and Mads Conrad-Petersen lodged a complaint with tournament organisers following the match about the way it had been played.
Another player, Hans-Kristian Vittinghus, later posted an update on Facebook in which he compared the match to a scandal during the 2012 Olympic Games in London, when eight players from China, South Korea and Indonesia were disqualified for deliberately trying to lose.
“This was a complete farce of a match which made me think of the London Olympics when 4 pairs deliberately tried to lose their matches. I kid you not, it was this bad,” Vittinghus wrote, citing errors in play that “just (don't) happen at this level”.
“Difficult to get hard evidence, but if you have watched a bare minimum of world class badminton, you'd know what just happened,” he also wrote.
The BWF told TV2 Sport that it would not comment on the issue prior to receiving a report from the tournament's organisers.

    This is what Boe has said about the decision to split;

    - It is a long marriage that ends here. I think we still have very much to offer in badminton, but you do not have to be Edison to see that the result the last half year or so has not gone very well.
    - We have had good and positive talks about what has to happen, and we have tried to figure out a solution. We think something has been lacking, and therefore, it will probably be the best option to try something new.
    - We have had a good dialogue about it, and we partly agree, I would say. Of course this is not easy for any of us. It's an extremely difficult decision and a tough talk, but I believe it's the best for both of us, and that it can breathe more motivation and life into our careers, says Mathias Boe.

Mogensen has not comment on their decision.

Lastly, Boe says they are still friends outside the court, but as described above, their play doesn't work anymore and they can't seem to develop it.

Yeah it is. But with the new agreement between BD and the players, and when the whole drama about the new partnerships in the MD is over, Danish badminton can finally focus on the WCH and the qualication to Tokyo 2020. I'm still positve about the next couple years towards Tokyo 2020 for Danish badminton.

Sara has been injured, but they will play All-England together.

Well, Boe and Mogensen are not young, so the new partneships will probably only last to Tokyo 2020. Boe and Mogensen will probably retire after that.

The Olympics are the most important thing for Badminton players and national associations. The players and BD  think both pairs needed to try something new to improve their results.

There has certainly been a lot of drama in Danish badminton these last months.

Conrad has commented on this a couple of days ago:

    Question from the journalist:
In the fall you went from a long-standing partnership. There seemed to be some issues and now you are back in a new partnership. What do you think about all the things going on right now in the MD?

    Conrad's answer:
    - It's actually what I've been good at keeping myself out of. But there has been more at stake than I have been aware of. I am now going back to a life with the people I appreciate training with and being around. We must find out the small things that had to be between us and our former partners. I have no outstanding with Kolding on the personal level, but we might need to sit together and have it all talked through. For me it was the right decision when I took a break.

    Question from the journalist:
Why didn't you start up with Kolding again? After all, you have experience together and know each other?

    Conrad's answer:
    - I think we both need to try something new. I can feel that I need to try something new. But in addition, I don't really have so many comments on it. I have to talk to Kolding myself under four eyes when I get home.

Kolding has yet to say anything. It seems that Kolding don't quite understand the decision, but of course, it's difficult to say what it's going on between the two of them.

    It has all been confirmed.

The real reason why Boe and Mogensen split is probably because Mogensen wants to be part of the national team. Before he split with Boe, they were not part of the NT, and the chance of being selected for the WCH and Olympics were small.
The weird part is that Boe has now decided to go back to Denmark and be part of the NT again. Both pairs are now part of the NT.

The NT coach says both pairs are temporary until summer this year. In the summer they will decide if the new partnerships work.

Boe/Conrad played together in Thomas Cup, which worked quite good, so the NT is hopeful and positive about this partnership.
Mogensen/Kolding is more questionable. They played together back in 2012, I think, and won a tournament. Though, it's the only time they have played together, so we just have to wait and see how it goes.

I think both partnerships can work. Boe/Conrad has showed they can play together, so hopefully they will continue to develop their play.
Mogensen/Kolding can be a powerful pair. Kolding has a strong smash and he will probably be the dominant back court player.  Mogensen will likely be the only player of the two who will go front court, but I think we will see much more back court play from this pair.

My fingers are crossed for these new partrnerships. Hopefully both will work out and Denmark will have two or three strong MD.

Us Indonesians have an anecdote: Han/Zhou and He/Tan are designed to defeat Gideon/Sukamuljo, not other pairs.

Personally I think it is because of their form is not at the top form yet, especially after Chinese New Year break.

It's pretty obvious.. You can't get through the competition in China and you search for other countries. It is also possible some of them decided to emigrate and/or study while playing for the country of destination.
