Np! The wind situation was quite bad. All of those other athletes should end up making the team.

Chevrier snagged the bronze medal in men’s laser. I guess those universality quotas for the Olympics are starting to have an impact on the program
Lettsome won the battle for the Pan American Games quota. He becomes his country’s first athlete qualified for the Games.

intoronto reacted to Olympian1010 in Pan American Games 2023
Definitely think the qualification process needs a rethink (for all sports) before 2027. There have been way too many updates made to the system during the qualification period (ie changing the amount of quotas at various events, eliminating qualification opportunities, adding events, etc), and there’s just an overload of competitions it seems.
In fairness, this whole cycle’s been a bit wonky (globally) because of the pandemic. Maybe it’s just a personal feeling, but it feels like there is a weird energy, incompleteness, rushed nature, etc. to a lot of the multi-sport games this year and last year.

Baseball qualification system has been updated as @intoronto alluded to in the CAC Games thread. New version is available here: https://www.santiago2023.org/descargas/en/Baseball.pdf
all fail to qualify, meaning we will have an entirely new podium in Santiago. also fails to qualify. The team sport lineups are looking weird this edition. It probably doesn’t help that many qualification events have been held separately from major competitions. PanamSports and continental federations might need to rethink the qualification systems moving forward.

I really like how they’ve worked handball into an existing venue. This event needs more venues like that in the future. Countries shouldn’t have to pay a large bill to host. The costs threaten the viability of these Games.

I think this is the first time an outdoor velodrome has been used for a continental/regional multi-sport games since the 2014 Asian Games?
Interesting use of space as they’ve put the patinodrome in the center of the velodrome.
