Wumo reacted to phelps in Men's Ice Hockey NHL 2023 - 2024
my personal takes...
team overperforming compared to the pre-season expectations (and the past years results): Vancouver Canucks, definitely the biggest surprise of the year
teams doing better than expected, but nothing special: Winnipeg and Nashville
teams heavily underperforming (and basically out of the playoff race): Pittsburgh above all, then New Jersey
at a lesser extent, also Minnesota, Seattle and Calgary also didn't match the early predictions
the defending champions Vegas are also having a modest season, but they had been injury plagued and however they're still going to the PO, where they might be very difficult to beat
the Chicago Blackhawks showing how difficult is to rebuild a team from scratch, even after drafting a generational talent like Connor Bedard (also because of a mangement not doing well with the other tech choices and too many injuries to some key players, tbh)
individual efforts: Auston Matthews chasing the highest goal scoring performance since many, many years; the race for the scoring title between Kucherov, McDavid and McKinnon, all 3 reaching numbers rarely seen in the 21st Century
but above all, the year in Canada has been dominated by the scandals surrounding the game of Hockey, both among the professionals (5 players charged with sex assault accusations) and the youth system (so many allegations to the so-called coaches and educators, lots of attempts to hide all the dirty stuff at the top level of Hockey Canada followed by resignations and dismissals of many propminent officials)...
all in all, not a great year for Hockey in Canada

For those, who missed farewell of our very own Peter Prevc. 💙💚
It was so emotional, I was there, the best part was, when singer Luka Sešek sang "Con te Partiro / Time to Say Goodbye", cover from Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman.
This was Peter's only wish, other parts of ceremony were a bit of surprise even to him. 😊😇
Hvala Peter / Thank you for all wonderful moments.

My personal votes and thoughts -
- 12 (One of the clearest winner picks for me. Great vocals, visuals, arrangement. Plus, the Maori segments are beautiful. @Wanderer)
- 11 (This was the only other song considered for my 12 points. It caught my attention quickly as well. It stood out from everything else, and the lyrics were interesting @Vektor)
- 10 (I think we might have some overlapping taste @Vic Liu. I liked the "throwback" nature of this song, and the lyrics/video were fun.)
- 9 (Just a fun, catchy, lively song. A nice ode to one's homeland @kungshamra71)
- 8 (I like the risk you took with this @hckošice. It has a great message and stood out from many of the other entires.)
- 7 (This is similar to some music I listen to more frequently. There was just something about it that keep me thinking about it @Wumo)
- 6 (A nice dance/party track. It got points for the integration of Maltese @Glen)
- 5 (Eley has a really good vocal. The song is a great pop track @Werloc)
- 4 (Retro in a way that was fun and stuck out @Henry_Leon @Gianlu33 @Pablita)
- 3 (Definitely an artist with a lot of promise @Hipooo)
- 2 (This originally feel outside my points, but creeped it's way back in. The vocal is nice and lyrics are interesting enough @Benolympique @Bohemia)
- 1 (This got me to move, and it was fun, so finally some points for you @konig)
- R1 (Catchy, but just under the line for points @mrv86)
- R2 (This almost snuck into the points. I'll be interested to see how she does at Eurovision @NikolaB)
- R3 (Great vocal, a nice country vibe. I just couldn't find room for it in my points @Fer GUA)
- R4 (I couldn't find the translated lyrics, and that hurt your chances for points @justony. The song was interesting, but I couldn't undertsand the message.)

Wumo reacted to Book in Totallympics Introduction Thread
Hello all!
I'm Book. A long time fan of the Olympics but only recently started lurking on this forum, looking for qualification updates. Thought I'd pop in and start talking now, seems like a fun crowd.
I'm from the US, born in Los Angeles and spent most of my life in Oregon, now living in Massachusetts. My first memories of sports was at a rec center built as part of a parks initiative of the 1984 games. After getting the Olympic bug in 2008 I convinced my parents to drive me up to Vancouver in 2010 where we stayed in Canada just long enough to see the first two heats of 2 man bobsleigh. I was luckily able to get some tickets to Football, Athletics, Rhythmic Gymnastics, and Modern Pentathlon for Paris, so my Olympic hype is at an all time high right now. Looking for some sport climbing tickets still.
On the forum I hope to be a resident expert on US Track and Field trials and LA 2028 planning, anything Olympics on the US west coast I'll chat to anyone about.

Teatro alla Scala
The Teatro alla Scala was founded, under the auspices of the Empress Maria Theresa of Austria, to replace the Royal Ducal Theatre, which was destroyed by fire on February 1776 and had until then been the home of opera in Milan. The cost of building the new theatre was borne by the owners of the boxes at the Ducal, in exchange for possession of the land on which stood the church of Santa Maria alla Scala (hence the name) and for renewed ownership of their boxes.
Designed by neoclassical architect Giuseppe Piermarini, La Scala opened on 3 August 1778 with Antonio Salieri's opera L'Europa riconosciuta.
The theatre is regarded as one of the leading opera and ballet theatres globally. The theater complex is home to the La Scala Theatre Chorus, La Scala Theatre Ballet, La Scala Theatre Orchestra, and the Filarmonica della Scala orchestra and is located in the square of the same name, next to the Casino Ricordi, home to the Scala Theater Museum. The original structure was renovated in 1907 when it was given its current layout. In 1943, during World War II, La Scala was severely damaged by bombing. It was rebuilt and reopened on 11 May 1946.
The theatre underwent a major renovation from early 2002 to late 2004. The Milan City Council approved the project by the architect Mario Botta for the restoration.
The opera house re-opened on 7 December 2004 with a production, conducted by Riccardo Muti, of Salieri's Europa riconosciuta, the the same opera performed at La Scala's inauguration in 1778
