If the Olympic Games were apolitical athletes wouldn’t not represent political entities, hear the song of a political entity upon winning an event, or parade under the flag of a political entity. Athletes would not be allowed to trade pins representing political entities, wear a uniform that displays the colors/flag/symbols of a political entity, or speak in any manner about a political entity. The International Olympic Committee would not hold elections for positions, and would instead run like a private business. Governing bodies representing political entities would no longer be allowed to be member federations of international federations. The International Olympic Committee wouldn’t sing a host agreement with a local, regional, or national political body, and would instead sign agreements with private companies, individual venues, and individual vendors. The Olympic Games would not be opened by the head of a political entity, but rather by the head of the IOC or LOC.

The IOC can't have it both ways.  When the Koreas marched together in 2018, they wanted to claim credit for that.  When the world has a beef with China and the IOC is turning a blind eye to human rights abuses, they'll pretend like the issue doesn't exist.

Yea, it would be nice to keep sports and politics separate, but we don't live in that world.  And if advocating for equal rights is "being political" then we need to take a long look at ourselves.

The best irony here for me is that the same group of people that say "keep politics out of sports" are largely aligned with the group that will be upset if politics is kept out of sports with the 2022 Olympics.  Same deal everyone.. which is it?  Can't have it both ways.

If you change the word "politics" to "morality", would you still agree with that statement?

Sports is so interwined with politics that anyone saying it should be apolitical is laughable.

Also, people who want x to be apolitical usually have a very defined ideology: they are pro status quo almost always.

So, let athletes represent themselves at the Olympics instead of pieces of land with an imaginary boundary decided by politics, then.

Some kind of 'development' events for trans people might be a nice idea. Even just to promote sport among them and make the field strong and big enough to continue the debate on making specific rules for each discipline to make it possible for them to start in main categories. Because still, they should have a right to compete within the strongest field if they meet certain criteria.

Also maybe a change in understanding the categories would help, so trans people competing won't be that kind of a taboo. I mean, change "men" and "women" categories to something more inclusive. Like "male-leaning"/" female-leaning". I'm not sure how to call it suitably, but I hope you get the idea. I suppose that would be welcomed by non-binary athletes like Leo Baker.

    "shudder at word queer"

Hm, I thought that "queer" is now an accepted term to the describe non-heterosexual and trans people and has lost its derogatory meaning, which made sense to me because I don't really like using an acronym to name a group of people, plus "LGBT" isn't inclusive enough as there are other kind of people inside this community who none of these 4 letters apply to.

And you deserve to be banned.

If you think it's okay to call a woman "he", you're absolutely no different from those nazi and fascist scum who can't respect those who are different from you. Do you think you're advocating for justice for "defending" Stowers? You're just a hateful human being. That's who you are. Do you think you have the right to misgender someone? You're not entitled to anything.

    Disgusting.

I think that the rules about trans people competing should be adjusted specifically to each and every discipline. There are plenty of different factors that may affect the performance. And I dare to say, that in some events, ftm people could have some kind of advantage too.

Still, there is so little trans participants, that organisations just don't care about making those rules. It seems like IOC made that very vague overall rule sticked to only one factor (testosterone) without any further insight. I suppose they may thought that it won't be an issue in the next 15-20 years.

And right now it seems like Hubbard and other trans people fall atls the victims of the situation with all the hatred towards them. I feel kinda sorry for her.

Totally understand that, but don't you think they should have this kind of results?
    1. It will stop haters
    2. It will be fair for  letting participate (if this advantage is too big) with points factors for example or maybe it will be diffrent event for trans athletes in Olympic Games
For me nowadays this subject is too emotional. It should be more scientific.

Semenya has also biological advantage, but maybe it is her "talent" from God? She is stronger than anyone? On the other hand in my opinion it is fair, she is a women and she can start in women's competition.  It is everything according to rules. Congratulation for her fight, She is a role model for mamy trans people. This a subject for experts from sport medicin, maybe it should be point converter or something.  "haters" should stop talking about her this way, they do not know nothing about trans people.

And that's the issue with those people they think some pre-op trans person can compete when the IOC has very tough rules before they are even allowed to compete.

I wouldn't agree. Athletes can still choose to compete if they have diarrhea. They are forbidden to compete if they have COVID.

It’s not that fair as it looks. it’s humanitarian but not fairness. For example, I lost in semi final but my opponent found COVID positive after that so I advance in final. And then I cherish this opportunity a lot, I defeated my opponent in final so I am the champion. To conclude I lost semifinal but I am the champion just because my opponent got a specific virus called COVID. But if he withdrew due to diarrhea then it’s a another story.

The round robin is the final. Basically the top 4 meet in a round robin, and the top 3 from the round robin qualify to the Olympics.

I do not endorse this format.

The Chef de Mission of Team Ireland was on radio this morning pointing out that the case levels in Japan are half what we have currently in Ireland yet we are opening up. She said the feedback they are getting from places where the Irish Team will have training camps in Japan is that there in are no issues with them hosting athletes etc.
Its election year in Japan so people need to bear that in mind. That said the IOC need to be doing more to reassure the Japanese people that every precaution is being taken. A good start is that the IOC themselves need to ensure that there are no junckets etc and that the bare minimum of officials attend.

Stop with this super-spreader fear mongering, they are acting as if the Olympics would happen normally without limitations and safety protocols. If the Japanese government wants to pull out, stop building up excuses through the media, do it now and pay the consequences.
