Nations that can win their first Olympic medal at the Summer Olympic Games Paris 2024

it would be nice (and a great story), but I fear it's not gonna happen2 points -
Mendrek/Kral won't have any issue with the outcome of this dispute. They are safe. The one who should be watching this is the next eligible men's singles player since an extra quota would open in men's singles if the Popovs are selected. In normal circumstances, indeed France can just simply choose who should play in Paris 2024 (be it from ranking or who the federation deemed to have better chances). But this is caused by BWF which did not do their job properly and Corvee/Labar got robbed caused by a mistake that is only fixed after the last tournament for Olympic qualification. The French Federation doesn't want to be a villain to their own players, so they simply handed this mess to the one who caused it (and tried their luck a bit with this excessive demand).1 point

As far as I could tell, there is no specific thread for this but with the first gold medals, and I didn't think it'd be big enough to open one, so here we go It's not a first medal, since Mauritius has won one bronze medal in boxing once, but they surprisingly have a shot in women's cycling this year. It's not a huge chance, obviously, but in Tokyo we saw how someone who wasn't even considered on any list of dark horses ended up with the gold due to the Dutch women totally fucking up their tactics, so weird things can always happen Kimberley Le Court Pienaar has been very impressive this year, often fighting at the front of the very biggest one-day races. Again, she is far from being the favourite, but I'd say her chances are significantly bigger than Anna Kiesenhofer's chances were ahead of Tokyo, and we know how well that ended. Definitely worth a mention, the chance exists!1 point

Well, I think badminton Federation will closely watch this as pair Medrek/Král should be taking the last qualifying spot. I understand that France is the host but in order to enter 2 pairs, they would have to have best pair ranked in top 8. The rules are strict, but 17 pairs, it would be too troublesome. But at some point, they can actually choose which pair they want to qualify. Or they want to enter 2 pairs because Popovs are both high ranked players in singles so they could use this as a leverage??1 point

Not really. Omanyala seems much more likeable as a person.1 point

What events are you waiting for the most in Paris 2024?

So I'm guessing you're even less of a fan of Omanyala? At least Lyles backed up the most important of his talks, Omanyala just said he was going to win every 100m and then lost everything1 point -

The Race to Paris miscalculation drama entered a new chapter with FFBaD now wants both French pairs qualified. Not sure how they will deal with this, for sure 17 pairs will be causing problems in the group format. Even if they created a special preliminary match between both French pairs, an extra headache might happen if the Popovs win (since it will open an extra MS quota)1 point

Swimming Qualification to Summer Olympic Games Paris 2024
dullard reacted to OlympicsFan for a topic
Do you even follow swimming? Please look up the results of the last world championships. When did Italy last go faster than the Chinese time from this year? China, South Korea and Australia should normally fight for bronze. Don’t see how Italy is relevant in this discussion.1 point -

Now I'd like to see William Poromaa try and fail miserably*, after his comments about biathletes basically being failed cross-country skiers. *unlike Nilsson, who like you said gave it a real attempt and definitely did not 'fail'. Most World Cup athletes never get a podium at all in their career, so she's done a fine job. Nice to see her in the races for the real tough ones from now on1 point

She gave it a legitimate attempt, but could not make it work. I give her lots of props for the attempt. It had to be frustrating to go from the top of the world to one who is almost irrelevant. Still a better biathlete than I could ever be :). Good luck Stina, thanks for showing the world how difficult biathlon is.1 point -

Stina Nilsson changes sport again, back to cross country but this time Ski classics. Her biathlon career ends with one individual podium and one in relay.1 point

Albania now has a hired mercenary Russian wrestler who won the World Championship gold medal last year in Zelimkhan Abakarov and will be a favorite for medal in Paris. still he is not a clear top 3 in the world, nothing is guaranteed for him, he can easily lose to another solid wrestler in the first round but I believe he has a good chance to at least win a medal, even gold is within his reach. what a proud moment for Albania if he wins a medal. years of hard work will finally be rewarded.1 point

Thea Lafond is a triple-jumper. Unequal chances in this lot : also has Lana Pudar (Women's 100/200m Butterfly) and, though a long shot now, Amel Tuka (Men's 800m). is a fair bet. Let's see how Alfred does in Budapest first. is a decent one. Probably less likely now than it was a few years back but McMaster remains one of the best. Problems are : he's struggling with injuries, and the competition will not allow him any leeway. alright. But Gega is not that young though she's at her best at the moment. Women's 3000m steeple is usually quite open when it comes to big competitions, but she'll have a hard time getting a medal. Others are highly unlikely.1 point
