  1. The first eight spots in Paris 2024 Shooting will be earned over the coming weeks at the 2022 European Championship (Shotgun) takes place in Larnaca, Cyprus. A modest "hidden gem" on the island nation's south-eastern coast, Larnaca is the country's third largest city, although the Larnaca Olympic Shooting Range is actually in the nearby village of Tersefanou, with a population of about 1300. Plenty of events will take place, but four of them matter for Paris 2024 qualification: the Men's and Women's Trap and Skeet events. The top two athletes will earn at most one place for their NOC (so the same country cannot snag both quotas). The opening ceremony will take place on Thursday, with Trap qualification on Friday and Saturday before the finals later on Saturday, with the women at 14:30 local time and the men at 16:30. After that, a few non-Olympic events take place but the Skeet Qualification begins on 8 September, before continuing on 9 September. Later on 9 September the finals will take place, again with the women beginning at 14:30 and the men at 16:30. Qualifying one man and one woman in Skeet will also guarantee a place in the Mixed Team event. In Lonato del Garda in 2019, eventual Olympic champion Czech Republic's Jiří Lipták and Great Britain's Aaron Heading earned a spot in the Men's Trap, with Greece's Nikolas Mavrommatis and Cyprus' Dmitris Konstantinou earning a spot in the Skeet. On the women's side, the ROC's Daria Semianova and San Marino's Alessandra Perilli (who won bronze in Tokyo) earned a spot in the Trap with the Czech Republic's Barbora Šumová and Ukraine's Iryna Mavlochiko earning a spot in the Skeet. However, this time, the European Shotgun championship is top of the pecking order (Shooting quota places have priority based on chronological order) rather than somewhere in the middle. The European Shotgun Confederation (ESC) has not provided a start list, but noted that "All members of the European Shooting Confederation are invited to participate without any exception", implying that Russian and Belarusian athletes will be able to compete. Some big names are expected to compete however: in Tokyo 2020, all three men's trap medallists (including champion Lipták), two women's trap medallists and the silver medallists in both skeet events were Europeans, as were the top two in the mixed trap team. An article on the IOC website confirms at least six Olympic medalists will be present: Jesper Hansen (Silver, Men's Trap, Denmark), Matthew Coward Holley (Bronze, Men's Skeet, Great Britain), Fátima Gálvez, Alberto Fernández (both Gold, Mixed Trap, Spain), Gianmarco Berti, and Alessandra Perilli (both Silver, Mixed Trap, San Marino; Perilli also won bronze in the individual trap event). With only two spots up for grabs in Larnaca per event, there will be stiff competition.

  8. we knew Iran has a strong junior team this time, actually we were expecting more from the freestyle team 5 of these guys are well-known wrestlers in senior level and 4 of them were in contention to make the senior team this year. yet only 2 of them managed to win the gold (we had a surprise gold medalist at 79kg too) I watched most of the matches and I have to say in the Indian team I was more impressed by your 65 and 74kg guys. before the competition I would bet on Sujeet to win the 65kg gold, I'm following him for months and I think he can even beat Bajrang right now (or at least challenge him) really surprised he lost to Azerbaijan in the semifinal. to me that was just lack of analyze from the Indian side. Sujeet just didn't know how to deal with the Azerbaijani plan (attacking from the distance) Sagar Jaglan surprised us by beating (and eliminating) one of our best chances, Erfan Elahi who won the junior title last year at 70kg (and was in the senior team and only lost 8-8 to the eventual world senior silver medalist) I just don't know how the hell Jagal lost his SF to Japan. he surely is someone to watch out. about your 125kg, I know you are not that good in heavier weights, (which is surprising consider how tough Indian wrestlers in lighter weights) he is probably a better prospect than your current heavyweight guys but still he wasn't really "impressive" he was on the easier side of the draw. no shame in losing by superiority to Masoumi in the final. Masoumi is 2nd in our senior team ladder (only behind World Senior Champion Zare) but Mahendra also lost 10-0 to our reserve junior team guy at the Asian Championship. which means he still can't compete in senior level.

  9. Great job by Iran as usual ..... India did very well this time with 16 medals ( on total medal count the same as Iran but well behind on gold medal count ) ..... After following Indian wrestling for the last 20 years can see huge +ve trend in India , we used to average only 2-3 medals till five years ago ...... I personally thought Priya( 76 kg silver ) and reetika ( 72 kg bronze ) in women along with antim ( sole gold medal winner for India ) in the lower weight categories may soon definately start moving into the main team , also an indian wrestler lost to Iran in the 125 free finals , @MHSN do you feel he is good ? ..... 125 free we do not have any good wrestlers , i also thought Sagar jaglan in 74 is someone look for in future ......

  12. Horrible story from Scotland. World Cup mountain biker Rab Wardell suffers a heart attack and dies just a day after winning the Scottish National Championships. At his side & unable to revive him was his partner, Olympic Gold Medallist Katie Archibald. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11141131/Olympic-gold-medal-winner-Katie-Archibald-reveals-battled-save-dying-partner-Rab-Wardell.html#comments
